Summary: What you should know about this graphics card
Review: This card is probably the biggest technological leap in the graphics industry since the original Voodoo. It's future-proof (supports DX9), and was the first card that ran at high framerates with antialiasing and anisotropic filtering enabled. It's fast, the prices have dropped, and now is a great time to buy one; there are only two more powerful cards that will undoubtebly be available between now and Half-Life 2 (September 30th)--the Radeon 9800 and the Geforce FX5900--but they are more expensive. If you must have the fastest on the market, skip the Radeon 9700 Pro and get the 9800. (The FX is a big ? because it hasn't been relased yet, but early benchmarks have shown it to be slightly faster than the 9800 albeit with lower image quality). But if you're looking for a card that offers the highest price/performance ratio at the moment, the Radeon 9700 Pro is it.

If this is the card you want, there are some things you should know first:

-Installing a graphics card can be an easy ordeal for some and a disaster for others. The 9700 Pro has been available for nearly 8 months and the drivers are mature; if you completely uninstall your old video drivers and install the latest ATI drivers, you SHOULD have no problems. However, not everyone's computer is the same, and it is possible that something could go wrong. If it does, don't sweat it. Back up some of your important files before installing the new card; if something does go wrong and the problem can't be solved, there is the option of reformatting, which will nearly guarantee a successful install. Just remember, not all computers are perfect, but given the maturity of this product, you should be able to avoid conflict and have it up and running within minutes of installing. Make sure those old drivers are completely gone!

-Have a fast CPU. This card is rather useless with anything slower than an AMD 1700+ processor. A fast graphics card requires a fast CPU, and you'll be disappointed that you spent $$$ for an accelerator that doesn't seem to accelerate much.

-If you don't play many games, don't get the 9700; it's a graphics card best used when running newer games at high resolutions with the image quality cranked to max. If you find yourself playing older games like Counter-Strike or Unreal Tournament, an older Geforce or a Radeon 9500/9600 would suit you much better.

Keep these things in mind if you're considering buying the 9700 Pro. If you run into any problems or want to know more about the card and it's competition, try visiting websites such as rage3d, anandtech, or beyond3d. All these sites have well written reviews and messageboards that can help you if problems arise or you're still torn about investing 300 dollars in a graphics card.

Summary: Just Speed!
Review: This card is very fast, but it's really can't support all games in the world.
If u want to run all games (Old-<->-new) just go to Gefroce!

ATI Corp is really bad, just bacause it only care about speed!
for example u will see ugly text appear and strange lines.

Summary: Great card but need fast CPU
Review: This card is very good. I had no trouble setting it up and it does everything is says on the box. I would recommend having a very fast CPU (2.4 GHz+) to use it to its full potential. Too bad no games fully utilize DirectX 9 yet...

Summary: An Amazing Graphics Card
Review: This is one of if not the best graphics cards I have ever used. It is amazingly reliable and lightning quick. Despite the fact that I have a 56k dialup modem, this graphics card allows me to play games online. It works best with a fast system.

My specs:

Processor: Pentium 4 2.65GHz
Ram: 256MB
Sound Card: Soundblaster Creative SB Live! Series
Speakers: 2.1 Harmon Kardon (with amazing subwoofer)
Operating System: Windows XP Professional

Buy this graphics card!

Summary: Ignore reviews by monkeys
Review: This is simply a great card. Time has proved it by the fact that two product cycles have gone by and it still beats Nvidia's offering. Simply put, this DX9 card is way way faster than any Geforce 4 card, allowing high resolutions with the best image quality. Plus the 9700 is the first and standard DX9 card, while Geforce 4 is Dx8 generation and dog slow for dx9.

Now Nvidia is trying to come out with Geforce FX, and this card is as fast as the fastest one of those, while not being noisy or bulky. The "midrange" nvidia offering is dog slow, half again slower than Radeon 9500 even (with advanced features enabled). Their image quality is worse also.

By the way, if the card isn't working for you then something is wrong with your system. ATI can't help it if you install it incorrectly or have other hardware incompatibility/instability. I bet those people have [inferior] power supplies or didn't connect the power supply to the card correctly.

Now there is also the 9800 Pro which is even faster than this.

Summary: What a WASTE!!!
Review: When I first purchased this card I thought...WOOHOO!!! My opinion drastically changed when I finally got it. After 2 days of trying to get it installed, including Major Long distance charges talking to support, both at ATI & E-Machines (my computer builder) it was discovered that unless you had a motherboard that had to be cooled by nitrogen (notice the sarcasm??) that there was such a voltage difference between the card and the board that the board would not support it. Hencefore.. the card was absolutely worthless. But by this time my system was so messed up because of installing AGP drivers, (another issue Radeon WON'T tell you about dealing with Non-Intel boards)and other so called *Fixes*, that I had to run a full recovery on my system just to get it back to where it would work!!! And before you ask... My system is no slouch. I am an Extreme gamer so I made sure, or so I thought, that I would be able to run anything out there. Guess not, cause I sure as heck can't run the 9700. If you will go to the 9700 buying page and punch up "used for sale" you will find mine listed at a very reasonable price. I know.. Your telling yourself, if Terry wants to sell his Radeon why would he be badmouthing it so bad?? Well I'll tell you. My Father raised me to tell the truth and to give an Honest opinion when asked. So...in closing I'll just say that I am going to stick with Nvidia for my graphics cards (currently running a TI4600) which I have NEVER had a problem with, and wish the best of luck to anyone who wastes large amounts of green on an overhyped Radeon product. But this is, as I stated, my own personal opinion. Thank You for letting me vent a little.

Summary: Bad experience with UT2K3
Review: While this card outperformed my Nvidia GF3Ti500 in the new Winmark (4300 to 1112) it ran UT2K3 worse... about the same framerates but constant crashing.

Worst part is telephone support for the first 30 days is on a toll line... in my case it cost me a bundle working with them for nearly 90 minutes... and their "free" email support is worthless... they simply send you links to white pages... which in my case I'd already gone through.

Recently sent the card back and plan to upgrade to a GF4 instead.

Summary: If you need to have the best of the best...
Review: Without question, the Radeon 9700 is currently (though this will probably change by the time this posted :)), the top of the graphics card tower.

The capability of this card is simply amazing. You'll be able to crank up the detail and resolution on virtually every application and enjoy silky smooth graphics.

That said, let's be honest, you're paying the early adopters premium for this card. The features of this graphics card aren't supported by any major applications and if you don't have a system to support this thing, it isn't worth it. Let me emphasize that last point. If you are interested in this card, make sure you're putting it in a powerful (probably equally high end) system. If you don't, your system will be limiting factor and you won't realize the full potential of this card. Sites such as Tom's Hardware have more detailed information about what kind of system you'll need to back a card like this.

If you're ok with all of that, this is definitely a great card. Installation (on Windows XP) was as simple as plugging it in (note, it does need to be connected to your power supply) as installing the drivers. I've had no problems with system instability and the graphics are simply amazing.
