Summary: Good card - Bad Price
Review: First, this card is good. Overheating can happen on any system that does not have proper cooling, but this goes for other computer componants as well. This card is powered by the Geforce3 Ti500 chip, which is the best Geforce3 chip available. It IS better than some Geforce4 cards and even some GeforceFX cards with low numbers such as the FX5200. The Geforce4 Ti series cards are however more powerful, but the Geforce4 MX cards are much less powerful. For those of you with older systems I say this card is a good choice. BUT the price is wayyy too much. Geforce3 Ti500 cards are not as common as they once were. I managed to find one just recently for $58 + shipping (new but without box). I found it to be an attractive price and among the best cards you can get in that price range. So IF you can find one for $80 or less I would recommend getting one. While the most recent games like UT2004 and Doom 3 will not run well (especially if you turn the quality settings up), you can still enjoy many of the older ones like WarCraft III or the Original Unreal Tournament (these run very well for example). If you want to run the latest games smoothly expect to pay - what amazon.com is charging for this card (about $350), only INSTEAD spend that on a Radeon 9800 XT (much more powerful) or similar! Though the system requirements for such a card are also higher...

Summary: The reason why this cost so much $$ couse they don't make
Review: Geforce3 is old card, it was introduced in 2001 January.
The reason this card cost so much money because it last and OLd edition.
Very hard to find. And the price was not changed since this card was realised.
This is insane price, for old card and for 64MB.
Gefrorce4 is 100% better than this.
Don't buy this card, for sure the worst upgrade for your PC for this price, Unless this card would cost less than hundred dollars.

Summary: Rodeon 8500 much better deal!
Review: I bought this card a while back so my perspective changed a bit after the recent release of GeForce4 Ti 4xxx series. (Note: the GeForce4 MX series is just a souped-up GF2, not a true GF4.) The GF3 cards were never cheap to begin with. Now that GF2 cards are a huge bargain, the GF3 represents even less value to all gamers except those with an big appetite for the latest and most poweful hardware.

The revolutioary feature in the GeForce3 GPU is the programmable vertex and pixel shaders, which makes it possible for developers to create very cool effects.

Unfortunately, not many PC games have taken advantage of this level of power, and the few that have are very poor in gameplay. So if you want to play all the top games, stick with a GF2 (or a similar ATI); in fact, you should probably get a GF4 MX (the souped-up GF2) which costs less than half of this card but actually gives you better performance on most games. Get a GF3 or GF4 Ti only if you absolutely want the programmable shaders, either for your own development needs or just to be able to get the few DirectX 8 games for eye candy.

(If you want to see what the GF3 can do, check out a few Xbox games that take full advantage of the shaders: Blood Wake, Rallisport Challenge, Project Gotham Racing, NFL Fever 2002, etc.)

Like most other Visiontek cards this one installs easily. Mine worked right away with Windows 2000. In everyday life I don't see any improvement over my previos TNT2 16MB card, but when it comes to games it shines. (But again, a [$] GF2 card would have done just as well.) There have been reports of incompatibility with some systems (AGP problem or power supply problem), so be sure to save all the packaging in case it doesn't work in your system.

Summary: Rodeon 8500 much better deal!
Review: I just replaced this card with my old GF2 32MB GTS,with old card the image quality was not too good, and in most today games I had problems playing with 1600-1200 Resolution. Rodeon with 128MB is different issues, it killed my Old Geforce 2.and all Geforces 3 Overclocking is fantastic, the drivers are perfect with windows XP, I made compares ant to my buddy friend computer same CPU and he has Geforce 3 TI 500, and my card smoked his card in every aspect of benchmarks. He got so upset that he decided to sell his card. Yes indeed Rodeon 8500 128 DDR is the best money can buy, really good Performance!...

Summary: My $400 VisionTek Experience
Review: I previously purchased a VisionTek Ti500 for $400 when it first came out.

Within a few months, the fan failed and the card overheated. Rather then send me an RMA, they sent me a new fan without any instructions on how to replace it - it was no straightforward and the install chipped a ceramic on the board.

They replaced it with another card whose heatsink simply fell off of the card.

When I requested an RMA, they said that VisionTek had gone bankrupt and that they were the new VisionTek who was not required to honor the warranty. They offered me an upgrade option with several cards - all but one resulted in a higher price for the upgrade then to buy the card at Best Buy.

I offered them to exchange me their lowest-priced upgrade card, which would have cost me $40 (mind you, my original card was $400), or I would escalate and FedEx the company CEO at the following address:

Hartford Computer group, 1610 Colonial Parkway, Inverness, IL 60067

and post my experience on online store reviews.

They failed to respond in 2 days, so here is the result.

Please note that I am neither advising or dissuading anyone from buying their cards, but simply posting a truthful and unbiased account of my experience with VisionTek.

Summary: Simple to install
Review: I was al little worried about instiallation of the new video card but it was SIMPLE, just plug and play with windows 98! All i had to do after installation was put the supplied cd in the drive and the rest was done for me! I switched from an 8mb ATI card and saw a world of a difference in the display of most all of my games, and programs. If you want an awesome card that is simple to install and run get this one!!!

Summary: My $400 VisionTek Experience
Review: The Geforce3 is my second GeForce video card. Both of them have performed excellent and have run the best games out there without any bugs (except for when the drivers became outdated). I made up my mind to purchase this video card shortly after I purchased the game "Morrowind", which was pushing my 2-year old, 32 MB Geforce2 to the limit, and then some. I was playing the game on moderate settings, and it was slowing down, becoming choppy sometimes. After I installed the GF3 (which was a snap), the game ran like a dream, with all of its beautiful environments and fantastic animation.

"Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast" is another game that I own which really pushes your video card to the limit. It too, looks great with this video card. I don't own "Grand Theft Auto 3", but I have read that it is another game that a card like the GF3 was made for. You can bet that we'll be seeing more and more games like this coming out. The point is, if you love great-looking games, then you'll want to grab this video card. If you are upgrading from an older card, then you will notice a difference in performance right away, even after you crank up the video settings a couple of notches.
