Summary: One very Happy Customer !
Review: After reading the reviews I came sooo close to not buying this product. Something told me to give it a try. I love it! It works great and I haven't found any MP3 files it won't play. I just leave it on most of the time. The full function remote it wonderful. The sound is really good and I like the digatal tuner. You can put batteries in it so you do not lose the programing when unplugging to move. It has so many features I can't list them all. By far the best I have found and I really looked for two months. I am very very happy and suprised with this terrific Boom Box! I have had no problems at all with it!

Summary: Decent bare-bones player, but with serious problems
Review: Bought and returned this after about a week. While the sound on this is decent, there's a number of serious issues:

(1) There's no headphone, line-in or line-out plugs, meaning you can't hook this into your home stereo at all.
(2) It's a battery hog -- 9 D cells and 4 AA's for the boombox, and another 2 AAs for the remote. And the box only runs about 4 hours or so on batteries.
(3) It only recognizes version 1 ID tags, when most computers use v2.3
(4) The interface to display tags is cumbersome; you have to push a button 4 to 5 times in a row to see the tags, instead of them automatically displaying (when they do exist).
(5) Don't even think about plugging this into the wall -- the electronics under the CD player get very hot, very quickly, which starts the player skipping and stuttering (when it's playing from CD-R discs). What's the point of a 10-hour music disc if you can't actually let it run for 10 hours straight?

Overall, this is a disappointment -- I'd expect this kind of performance from a generic brand, but not from Memorex.

Summary: mp3 boombox - not this one!
Review: Has only played from an mp3 style disc once, and after 4 months of ownership it does not even play audio cds anymore. I wish I kept my receipt. I wish I read reviews first.

Summary: Not a buy
Review: I bought this particular item for it's capability to play MP3 discs, it being the first box I have found in a store with that capability. Boy, what a disappointment.

The first box I bought home would play about 10 songs on a home recorded MP3 CD-R (ironically enough, a memorex cd-r) then it would stop tracking altogether. When the box was shut off and examined, I found that the CD was actually hot enough to be painful to touch from being played. This is not right.

I returned the item, and exchanged it for a new one. This one would not even recognize that a CD had been placed in the player, and would constantly demand that the door be shut. Enough is enough, I'm buying another brand in the future, and recommend that others do so as well.

Summary: Memorex MP3124 Boombox experience not the best
Review: I have a library of 35 MP3 discs. 20 worked fine right off the bat. Got 8 more to work after burning over 60 CDs trying to figure out what was wrong.

Memorex support is NON-EXISTENT. Sent detailed email to their support group and never heard back.

Still can't get 7 mp3 CDs to work....ready to give up guessing.
These 7 work fine on portable mp3 player and DVD/mp3 and computer.

The ones that work come up in about 12 seconds ready to play.
Works with 128, 160, 256 kbs

Problems:

- Will not read CD...spins forever until you stop it
- 60 to 120 seconds before ready to play
- Lists wrong number of folders
- List total files greater than actual files, repeats earlier songs 1 or more times later in playback list.

Some fixes were:
- only 23 or less files per folder (fixes total file read problem)
- possible limit on number of folders
- Can't handle long file names (unsure of actual limit)

Any suggestions please email me at: cranekenup@attbi.com

Summary: decent sound, no output jack
Review: I just bought this but am in the process of returning it because it has no output or headphone jack. I saw the MP3 capability as a way to tie into my regular stereo equipment so that I could leave a single CD in for a party and walk away. Obviously you need some sort of output jack for that.

I tried to figure out from the online info whether or not this had such a jack, and finally decided that nobody would be dumb enough to make a boombox at this price point without a headphone jack. Wrong answer.

My 5 minute test suggests the sound is decent enough though. If you don't need to tie this into any other system, it is a good buy.

Summary: Memorex MP3124 Portable CD Player Boombox
Review: I just received my player and I am very pleased with it. Everything worked fine but I was dissapointed with the text display option when viewing the FOLDER NAME and FILE NAME. When using this option it is limited to 8 charactors and also replaces spaces( ) and hyphen(-) charactors with a zero(0). I think this was and overlook when most people use the ARTIST NAME as the FOLDER NAME also the FILE NAME as the SONG NAME for folder and files on their computers. Often they include track numbers and text names using spaces and hyphens. This option doesen't SCROLL like the tags feature and causes inconvinience when burning because you have to rename FILES and FOLDERS before you burn so that it makes some kind of sence.
Tags seem to read fine, this is where the player is nice. The Tags scroll across the screen as such (TITLE SONG TITLE) in 15 or 16 second intervals. The same goes for ARTIST and ALBUM. These tags have a limit of 30 characters. Buy why couldn't the FOLDER NAME and FILE NAME have the same capibility?. The backlit LCD display is nice and I love the style.
