Summary: Weak
Review: Didn't have a clock. The display is to small for that much info. and the biggest problem is that it's not loud. It's really weak and distorts really easy. You can find better Mp3 boombox. I did.

Summary: One year and dead
Review: I am very disappointed in this Sony. I have had it for exactly one year and the CD Player has died. It was dying a slow death for a couple weeks now - skipping tracks, long start up time (especially MP3s which take a good five minutes to read) and poor sound. It just died today - it can no longer read any type of disk I put into it.

For the price it is a joke. You can get a lot better value than this player.

It does have MP3 capability, CD, tapes and AM/FM, but for me the most important thing was the CDs and noteably the MP3 function.

Shop around. You can certainly do better!

Summary: It is one of it's kind
Review: I bought this about 2 years back, till now I did not have any problem. It is the only item you can get to play cassette, CD, MP3 and radio. Sony is not releasing any more of this type. It played some mp3 discs which other players did not play. I loved it's sound quality and radio signal pick up. The sound is enough for home use. Special mention is about it's remote. It is quite sensitive. Of course, you always get a sensitive remote controller from Sony.
It plays everything fine. I will just say go for it.

Summary: No Disc/No Disc/No Disc
Review: I can't believe that I went the extra mile to buy Sony and this happens. I am very disappointed. Of course it would happen about 1 month after warranty runs out. Sure you can mail it in for repairs but why not just buy another stereo. Definitely a product to RUN from.

Summary: no disc, No disc, no Disc, NO DISC!!!!!
Review: I got this in silver last August. I liked what I saw. THE FIRST TIME I took it out of the box from (best buy) and pressed play on the deck the tape was dragging. When I tried to press stop I noticed the play button did not pop right up, it went up only half way. The rewind and forward buttons also did not pop up when other buttons were being pressed, all buttons would pretty much stick down at the same time. So no recording new music or speeches or interviews, etc. I had to remember to go exchange at "best buy"
Allright, now the cd player I enjoyed, the remote is also very nice. However after 13 months, one day, the cd player shut off in the middle of a new cd being played. Then over the next couple weeks it broke down in stages.
After pushing play it spun first, then a clicking sound, and after several attempts it played. After a few day, it started shutting off if you tried to skip ahead. So I try playing straight through, and it stops earlier and earlier in the cd. I felt lucky when I could hear track three on a cd. Then it wouldn't even play, it just clicked and then said NO DISC. This all happened a couple weeks before the new outkast and all the other albums that have dropped since.
Why is Sony even shipping this [expletive] anywhere. I know I was supposed to go across town with my receipt and exchange within 90 days right? But damn, again, why is Sony shipping this [expletive] anyway?

Summary: Very good for the price
Review: I listen to old-time radio shows, commercially available on MP3 CDs -- 50 hours of programs can fit on one CD -- and this unit plays most of the tracks (maybe 10-15% come up with "no MP3" reading; why, I don't know, but other brands' units do the same thing). But for the price, you are getting an MP3/standard CD player, a tape player, and an AM/FM radio that has remarkably good sensitivity on BOTH AM and FM. It has a variety of sound quality/FM stereo settings, a very good remote, and a mediocre LCD "screen" with, alas, no backlighting. I would not consider it a great sound system, but it is good enough. I've had it only two months so I don't know it's reliability over the long haul.

Summary: Bad Bad Design!!
Review: I love Sony products, but this one is very confusing. The play icon is reversed....the arrow points to the left instead of pointing to the right! This is the opposite of every audio system I've ever used. The rewind arrow and the forward arrow are reversed as well. I felt like an idiot using this at first, since I kept fast forwarding when I thought I was rewinding. Very very confusing! But its a Sony, so I'm stuck with a long-lasting good product that I am forever frustrated using.

Summary: Another no disc
Review: I purchased this product several months ago from someone else. FM worked great and I loved all the features. One day I put in a CD and all I got was a no disc message. I sent it back as defective and was sent another one. It behaved exactly the same way. Because both had come directly from Japan, I thought something might have happened during shipping or perhaps something wasn't correct for Stateside use. Because I really loved the size and features, I wanted to try one from Target. After reading the reviews, I've changed my mind. I've always associated Sony with quality products but not anymore. I really appreciate the opportunity to read other opinions and make informed choices.

Summary: VERY DISAPPOINTING - Don't buy it
Review: I was very excited to see a boombox with MP3 capability and was delighted to see the SONY label. But now I'm only frustrated and very angry. So far, SONY has been unable to give me a clear explanation or solution to the problem I am experiencing.

This unit is apparently VERY fussy about what sorts of MP3's it will play and won't play. It appears as though advanced ID3 tags will cause songs to skip the very beginning of songs. AT least that is my theory. What appears to be the case is that very primitive MP3's will play fine; more sophisticated MP3's will NOT. In my opinion, this unit is NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME. And certain not worth the price.

On the positive side, SONY's technical people have been very patient with me (more patient than I have been), but have been unable to provide a solution, at least so far.

As for ordinary CD's, not a bad boombox. But you can get cheaper boomboxes. So why pay more for a major feature (MP3) that doesn't function well at all?
