Summary: Hey, aren't you R2-D2's cousin?
Review: Compared to the cumbersome behemoth of a boom box I used to have, the Sony CFD-E75RR looks like a piece of hardware accidentally left behind by style-conscious extraterrestrials. With its compact, globular profile, the E75RR will fit in (and perk up) most any niche, and it's decidedly road trip-friendly. This feature-rich little dynamo will satisfy the needs of most music lovers, from cutting edge techno-geeks to more old-fashioned folks, like myself, who will appreciate the logical controls and the high-quality cassette deck. One small design drawback: The E75RR's function buttons, in general, are surprisingly hard to push. I prefer to use the excellent remote control, which has a flat base that allows the user to sit it upright - very handy.

The sound quality is very good and on a par with other machines in this price range. However, the user has little control over fidelity beyond volume and mode (stereo or mono). The ability to adjust tone level - usually a standard boom box feature - is curiously absent. Also, the selectable MegaBass control is wimpy, making only a barely noticeable difference in the "bottom."

PROS: Compact, stylish and goes anywhere; lots of features; great remote control; nice sound.

CONS: Stubborn function buttons; limited control over sound quality; disappointing MegaBass feature.

RECOMMENDATION: Fine for casual listening; would make a welcome gift.

Summary: Great for its price
Review: I got this little stereo for my dorm room. This is not a surround sound system, but that's obvious. It's a small system, but it still packs a lot of features.

I won't summarize all the features since Amazon.com lists them in the technical data. The CD player and tape player work great. The radio antenna isn't the best in the world, but I don't really have a complaint about that. I have yet to figure out how to change the radio station more quickly using the remote, or at all on the actual system. But, I suppose if I read the manual I'd figure that out rather quickly. That is a negative point, not all of the features are easy to figure out without the book. So, don't go tossing that book out when you unwrap it. I wouldn't say it's difficult to master, but it's not a "common sense" system either.

The sound is great considering its size. My mom has a larger stereo system that packs more of a wallop, but I don't need something that large or loud in a dorm room. I don't listen to music very loud anyway. But, the sound is much better than I anticipated for a stereo of its size. At first I had put the stereo on the ground and started it and was very disappointed by the sound. When I put it on a table, however, the sound was just as good as my mom's stereo, as long as I kept it in a decent sized room and didn't try to make it blaring loud. If you need something to rock your walls and annoy your neighbors, this isn't the system for you. It can get pretty loud, but probably not loud enough for some people. All of its features work fine for me, although I wasn't impressed with the megabass option (I dont use it anyway, though)

As far as its build, the stereo doesn't look or feel like it's made of titanium and can last through whatever you decide to do to it. It's small, what do you expect? Don't go slamming it around, and it shouldn't break. Don't yank on the parts and they shouldn't break. The antenna actually seems to be more sturdy than most antennae, though. I don't think that the buttons are too hard to press, but I do have to close the lid on the CD player a bit hard to get it to stay closed. I also don't like having to push down on the lid to get it to open.

So, the system has its pros and cons as any electronic system does. But, it's a great deal for its price.

Summary: Sony = OVERPRICED JUNK
Review: I was happy with the product until the CD player started to go bad within a few weeks. It will play a CD; however, just not for very long before it stops unexpectedly. Why there is this myth that Sony makes great quality products is beyond me since every Sony product I have bought in recent memory has been nothing but problems. Furthermore, Sony products are usually more expensive than the competition, which must be due to the high "quality" standards or rather the marketing of this myth. No more Sony for me.

Summary: Great sound and looks!
Review: This is actually a review of Sony CFD-E75 CD/Radio/Cassette Boombox (Silver), exact thing except color. I "borrowed" this from my wife when I found I didn't have any cassette players (except in a car) and had to listen to a cassette. I was impressed by the sound quality for spoken word cassettes. Everything sounds normal like a human is talking! I've also listened to music cassettes and music CD's and am just amazed at how good this sounds. The "wheel" for selecting CD tracks is a great idea and is used for tuning the radio when in "radio" mode. That makes it easy to find your station.Speaking of which, this model has a "real"three section, rotating antenna, not a skinny little wire hanging out the back What won me over though was the FM AND AM reception on the radio section of this item. We live in an area where the big antenna are on a hill real close to our home so we've always had problems with radio reception. A good adjustable Bass with the Sony "Mega Bass" button does change the sound noticably. I like the styling and I keep the thing on the night stand next to my head so haven't needed the remote. I guess I'll let my wife keep that. HA HA
This was a good purchase. She swears she got ot for considerably less than the price shown. But even at the price shown, I think it's darn well worth it!
Highly Recommended!
