Review: Bought this in November as a Christmas present for my 11 year old, so it was opened on Dec. 25. On July 4 (6 months and 9 days later), the CD player failed to detect that a disk was installed. It didn't take long to see that the laser lens inside the player was missing... it had popped out. I found it loose inside the bottom of the speaker case. I could not reinstall it, and it appears that the retention of that lens is simple friction against some side posts. Or possibly, another retention piece is missing and I can't find it. Compared to another brand CD player, the lens mounting is cheap, lightweight, and probably built by the lowest biding subcontractor for Phillips. In any case, it couldn't hold up to an 11 year old playing it outside with friends. So, if you are bedridden or similarly isolated such that this boom box will sit on a sturdy table and not be moved much, this is the unit for you. I gave it 2 stars instead of of only one because it does sound good when it plays.

Summary: Great bang for the buck!
Review: Got this for me teenage daughter, [low price]. Great sound, crisp, clear highs, good bass, nice seperation (for small boombox)and good volume, better than her Aiwa stack unit. Adults may prefer the more subdued styling of the AZ203517. A can't miss choice!

Summary: Great bang for the buck!
Review: I currently own four Philips "boomboxes." The best sound was from our older AZ2000/17 (unfortunately, not purchased from Amazon.com). The CD player quit working in less than two years. To that point, it was one of the greatest sounding portable players I've ever heard - very close to BOSE quality sound, without that ultra high cost. In purchasing the 'newer' AZ2025/17 (from Amazon.com), I noticed a very close resemblence in the sound quality to our AZ2000/17, but the unit is not the most attractive piece of audio equipment that I've seen. Although, the best part is that GREAT Philips tuner system. I buy Philips because their tuners are unusually strong, and seem to pick up stations with more clarity, from far greater distances than any other portable on the market. Not to mention the terrific sound quality! Philips' older model "boomboxes" tended to have fragile, easily breakable antennae clips though, so beware. I'm now investing in the much more attractive, later model, Philips AZ2035/17 (again from Amazon.com). Hope that this continuous "upgrade" will produce the same (or better) sound qualities of the past AZ2000/17 (now defunct) and the AZ2025/17 models.

Review: I got my Phillips Boombox CD/radio/cassette player yesterday ahead of the schedule and in good condition. Thank you Amazon.com. I had narrowed my choice down to 2 or 3 choices and hesitated because of the negative reviews about a broken lid; cheesy remote, etc. but I decided to order this one mainly because of the one comment made about good radio reception which was not given in relation to other CD/Radio boomboxes. I do not get good radio reception where I live and I have never been able to get King 98.1 classical station very good at all. Now I get quite good reception and am very happy about that and the great sound of radio and CD. I have not played a cassette but ear phones work great too. I hope it will prove to be very reliable as I love it. The little toy like remote has STOP on it but very strange not to be able to turn on and off the whole system via remote. I am close to it when I use it so visuals and distance of remote no problem.

Kudos to Phillips for the great radio reception both FM and AM and quality of sound. I value clear sound over just volume but volume is great too. I also like the unique and (not all black) looks. Today is day 1 of use and hope to have many more without a problem.

Summary: Impressive sound
Review: I got this boombox on Amazon ... -- a great deal! I really wasn't expecting spectacular sound from this unit, so I was pleasantly surprised at how really good the sound quality is. We paid at least twice as much for an Aiwa shelf system a few months ago. Honestly, I can tell very little difference between the two systems as far as sound quality is concerned. I was also surprised at how loud this boombox goes with NO distortion. Sure it would be nice to have some additional features on this unit (for example, being able to turn it on and off with a remote, having a lighted display, having auto-reverse on the cassette player); however, at the price I purchased it, no boombox on the market comes close as far as sound quality is concerned (which is the most important feature in my book).

Summary: Good sounding bass!!
Review: I got this from amazon..a little worried about buying a radio without hearing it. Well..I loved it! Good sound for the price! The remote was a good thing too. The only drawback to this radio is the the lcd display does not light up. It is kind of hard to see. Unless you are under a lot of light:( But, besides that I would say buy this radio if you want something that sounds good and is portable!!

Summary: Good, but not Great
Review: I have owned this unit for about 1 year, and over the 1st year i have had no major problems. There are some minor quirks with this boom box though, for example, the backlighting is very weak, if you are anywhere other than right in front of it, and the bass boost, surround, and high quality buttons make the song skip for a second, thats pretty much it. The remote is not only cheesy (like stated above) but its weak too. It is overall a good buy for almost any music lover, execpt, boomboxes were originally built for easy manuverability with batteries, but have you seen how many batteries this thing takes!?! But no more than any other, but still.
