Summary: A handy, robust, high-quality product
Review:
I bought a Panasonic RR-QR240 over a year ago and I
haven't left home without it. First of all, the microphone
generates a clear and crisp signal, yet is sensitive
enough to be able to record people speaking 6 feet away.

Second, the recording time is one of the best one around even
though this product is no longer the newbie on the market.

Third, and some of you may not believe this (I wouldn't if
I it hadn't happen to me): last night, I was cleaning clothes
and ACCIDENTALLY WASHED my RR-QR240. I didn't realize this
until I heard strange knocks in the dryer...
I took it out of the dryer, threw out the batteries, opened up the case,
and proceded to gently dry the electronic components.
After leaving the unit to dry up overnight, I put in fresh
batteries this morning, and while my previous recordings
were lost, my unit STILL WORKED!

I just wish other products in the high-tech market were
this robust!

Summary: One of the best note takers
Review: Great, sensitive electret condensor mic. Many, many features and good storage. I love the little jog-dial for finding messages quickly. I looked at five different models from four manufacturers (bought them all). Over an extended evaluation period, this one rose to the top as the best for note taking. Its one of the few that starts recording as soon as you hit the record button. Some (RCA 34000 for example) have slight delay and you lose a word or two.

It is NOT a dictation machine. If you're serious about gathering volumes of text to transcribe, get the Olympus DS-150 or better yet - get a regular tape machine and save yourself some money.

I've used it to successfully record several telephone conversations, something I never thought of doing until I got it.

I liked the Olympus VN-180 also, but it had more background noise than the Panasonic.

Summary: Keeps on breaking
Review: I have a Panasonic RR-QR240 and a RR-QR80. The QR240 was purchased in Oct 2000 and the QR80 was purchased in August 2001. The QR240's speaker went out. I had to put a headset on it to hear messages. I purchased the QR80 to fill in while the QR240 was being repaired. It was promptly returned to me by a service center out of Georgia. Their repair lasted about three days. So I put it in the drawer and continued to use the QR-80. Today the microphone when out on it. So now I have two of them that broke. In just over a year I have spent about $200 on units that do not work. Try a Sony.

Summary: A Real Good Product!
Review: I have to admit that I am a Panasonic-Fan since I've bought my first Panasonic-Speaker-Phone 12 years ago. But this device - WOW! I can not agree with the opinion that it is over-engineered - if you read the manual and you use this device every day you will get so used to it that you will never leave the house without it again. I always had the problem that I was doing one thing and while I was doing it I had an idea about something else - knowing that I might forget this new idea I dropped the thing I was doing to do something about the new Idea... Result: I started a lot of things and never finished anything. Now, when I get a new Idea, I simply grab the device from my belt and record it. Every night I go over my recordings and make a To-Do list out of it. I have increased my income (I am a web developer) ONLY because of this device (much faster and hadier to make notes than with a palm pilot!) by about 12,000 dollars over the last 3 months! One of my best buys EVER!

Summary: Excellent Review for Model QR200
Review: I put a lot of value in your reviews so I thought I would share how happy I am with my new digital tape recorder, Panasonic Model QR200. Although mine doesn't have quite the capacity of the QR240, I am very happy with its performance. I can only assume the QR240 is just as nice with more capacity.

First of all, it is very compact and easy to use. Because it is so small, I take it practically everywhere for making quick notes of ideas or information I don't want to forget. The erase feature works very well, so when I have completed my follow up, I erase that item and continue only with the items I still need.

The thumb wheel works very well, allowing you to go forward or backward to review your messages. It truly can be operated with one hand, including the recording process. The hold button on the side is a great feature to prevent the machine from activating while in your pocket. Even if you do accidently activate the machine, it is very simple to erase the unwanted file, restoring your storage space. I especially like being able to go from one message to another without having to spend time rewinding over previous messages. Like a CD, you can jump from one message to another.

The four folders are nice to help you categorize your messages or you can transfer them from one folder to another according to priority. I am extremely satisfied with this product. It does what I want it to, is small, quiet, easy to use and I would highly recommend it to others!

Summary: Perfect for Bird Recordings
Review: Just put it on the ground where there is a mysterious bird song, or next to the bird feeder, and let it record in Hi Quality mode for a hour. Or carry it on walks and bike rides to catch that bird song that's been bugging you for years, and carry it home to compare with Peterson or Stokes CDs.

There's no bass response to speak of (good for birds) and the highs are excellent and there's absolutely no mechanical noise of course.

Save short segments you want to remember in another folder, and do it all again.

Attaching a length of day-glo tape to the hand-strap hole will not only help you find it in the field, but also helps find it in the house, where it instantly disappears in the clutter otherwise.

I bought it to record 4 hours of Imus each day, but the low quality mode isn't quite up to it. The other two modes are okay.

It uses 3.5mm mono jacks for input and output, to record off the air or play back through your computer or stereo.
