Summary: This Model Worked Fine For Me on InsightBB!!
Review: ... But for price & warranty. I would give this modem a try. Especially if your on a tight budget. ... And it works great with ethernet. So no complaints here. OS is XP Pro. ...I'd definitely rate this modem a buy!! 3COM email support staff could be a little nicer though. ...

Summary: Doesn't work on SE AT&T Roadrunner
Review: 3-Com is a good name, but this cable modem just plain doesn't work on AT&T Roadrunner in my area. (Jax, FL) Had the modem tested and checked out via 3Com support. Modem passes all dianogstics. I've heard it works fine on other cable networks, and even in other parts of the country with AT&T. If you live in the SE USA, I'd buy a different brand. I've put mine up for sale.

Summary: Firmware Problems...
Review: 3COM cable modems apparently have firmware problems that cause the connection to your cable provider to time-out, so you get a tempermental connection and have to try a bunch of resets to get it going again. My cable provider sadi that as long as it was DOCSIS compatible, it shouldn't be a problem - now I know why not a single 3COM was listed as "supported / approved" on their website (for anyone who cares - I'm with Cox Cable in Northern Virginia).

Get something else that'll actually work. Sure wish I'd known better...

Summary: Great performance on AT&T Broadband (RoadRunner)
Review: After five minutes, I was up and running on AT&T Broadband formerly MediaOne's RoadRunner service (i.e. mediaone.net). Like prior reviews have stated, this modem is 3Com's 3CR29210. Throughout the documentation, you are told to use the settings for the 3Com 3CR29220. This modem offers simple setup and excellent performance.

I was leasing a 3Com 3CR29220 from AT&T and (...) this modem makes financial sense if you plan to use the service for a year or more. It is too bad 3Com couldn't stay in the retail cable modem business and continue to offer inexpensive modems.

Summary: OptimumOnline, Southern Connecticut
Review: All 3Com OfficeConnect used modems bought from FinalCall come with no software CD in the package, FinalCall customer service told me. My advice is to connect the modem directly to your network card, much easier and faster then looking for USB drivers on the net and installing them. 3Com tech support told me that a lot of OfficeConnect modems have problems when connecting to USB ports. Once connected to my network card, it took less than 2 minutes to start surfing the net with a blasting speed...Overall, a nice deal

Summary: good product
Review: At the beginning, I got the same time-out(20 minutes) problem, after calling AT&T many times(more than 10), they realized this is because I had not registered the cable modem with their server. After I registered it with their server, time-out issue is gone. There is a tech who visited my apartment to install the system for me. I just wonder this should be the very first step, how come it looks none of AT&T's support knows it?

Summary: 3Com has very poor customer service
Review: Based on other reviews that we had seen posted on this site, my husband and I decided to buy the 3Com External Cable Modem. Unfortunately we received one with a faulty installation CD.

When I called the customer service number that was with the installation packet, the 800 # had been disconnected. In order to reach technical support I had to pay for a call to the "847" area code. Once connected, I was on hold for several minutes. When a live representative finally came on the line, I was informed that they could not help me without a copy of the sales receipt, which they required me to fax. I spoke to a supervisor and she was even more unwilling to help, letting me know that I was keeping her on the line past closing on a Friday, so that I needed to call back on Monday because they are now closed on week-ends.

I was told that these modems are 5 years old so I can't expect the material included with them to be up-to-date. According to the supervisor, Rebecca, these modems are no longer manufactured, because they have upgraded the product. I guess that justifies poor customer service, even though I had no idea 3Com was trying to "get rid" of older product when I purchased this modem.

I was lucky and found someone with ATT who was able to help me get the modem up and running, but I am VERY displeased with 3Com. I am still tempted to return the modem based on sheer principle.

The modem works just fine now, but based on my experience with technical support at 3Com, I have no intention of ever purchasing any other products made by this company again.

Summary: Service incompatibility
Review: Charter Communications is my provider and they were not able to get this modem to work with their service. They said they had problems with the Office connect. I also called 3Com a and that didn't help either, everyone was helpful but check the service compatibility list of modems before ordering this one.

Summary: Incompatible with Cox Communications
Review: Despite whatever anyone tells you, Cox Communications, Cox@Home, and the Road Runner HSI service no longer support 3Com cable modems. Beware and be careful.
