Rating: Summary: It works as advertise. Review: (...)it connects faster at power-up then the old LandCity (sp) I was paying (price)for. I think it remembers the last connection settings and start the hunt from there. I would say that the download speed is the same as the old modem. (...)
Rating: Summary: Rebate from the manufacturer is a gimmck Review: ...The modem works o.k.,but the promised rebate has not been received from the manufacturer even though I followed the instructions to the letter to get the rebate. The rebate is a gimmick and trying to get it is a headache. If you do not mind getting the rebate, just go for it. Otherwise, you have to call the manufacturer and spend all the time waiting in vain for the rebate.
Rating: Summary: works fine with Comcast! Review: A few months ago, after being switched from Excite @Home to Comcast, I decided to buy a cable modem instead of using a rented one. I was initially concerned that the new modem may not be compatible with the Comcast service but my fears were unwarranted. I called Comcast, gave them the MAC ID and other info. They told me to wait a day before installing the modem to give them time to get the new modem info into their system. A day later, I installed the new modem. It worked from the outset and hasn't given me a bit of trouble.
Rating: Summary: beware Millenium Cablespeed users Review: according to technical help at Millenium, this modem does not work with their cablespeed service. do not buy it if Millenium is your cable ISP.
Rating: Summary: Had to get a refund Review: As instructed, I gave AT&T the MAC address and serial number and gave them a week to register it. Then I find out later that I had to go to http://sas.r2.attbi.com to register the modem and make changes myself. After several attempts logging in with my account and registration nubmers, I keep getting messages to call AT&T to make the changes. I was on the phone with AT&T tech support for a whole week and they couldn't figure out why I couldn't get a connection. My computer constantly freezed up and a message kept saying that my Local Area Connection is unplugged. Several times I checked the connection, and everything seemed fine. I tried resetting the modem as well. However, when I plug in my old cable modem, it worked fine. I tried to call Best Data, but found out that they charge an initial fee...for tech support. After hours of frustration on the phone with AT&T, and to no avail, I returned the merchandise. Could be a faulty modem, I'll never know. I finally bought a Linksys...and was hooked up in 5 minutes. Go figure.
Rating: Summary: Great modem for a GREAT price! Review: Cable Modems are basically a commodity item now that the DOCSIS standard has completely consumed the known broadband world; so, I can't say this modem has any special features that you wouldn't find in any of the other 100 models of DOCSIS cable modems. But I *can* say that this is absolutely the best value you'll find on the market today. It is fast, accurate, and simple to install. The CD that accompanies is has a very useful HTML-based troubleshooting guide that helps you understand any problems you may be having with your installation. The only problem I had was that after installation the modem could not acquire block sync. with my cable provider's network (the "CABLE" light kept blinking slowly rather than staying lit). After several hours of work with my ISP's technical team, and even a visit from the cable company, I was still unable to get it to work. I had it packed up and ready to send back to Amazon when someone from my ISP call me to let me know that they had figured out what was wrong. It turns out that there is a RESET SWITCH inside the modem, which must be activated after power is applied and the self test is complete. After activating the reset switch, the coax cable can be attached and block sync. will be acquired immediately. I tried it and it worked perfectly the first time. The gotcha is that the reset switch must be activated by pushing an unbend paperclip into the center of the coax connector on the back of the modem, where the "stinger" portion of the coax cable would go. Once inserted, just keep pushing in until you feel it "click" and that is the reset switch. I wouldn't have believed it unless I had done it myself to get it to work. Overall, this is a great cable modem. I've been using it for about a week now and am loving the speed and reliability!
Rating: Summary: Easy to set up and Use Review: Good modem, no hassles, just plug it in. Great price after rebate too.
Rating: Summary: works great Review: got this modem today.I do work in the industry. inspite of the bad reviwes in the past on best data, I had this working in half hour.I only bought it for its low price.usually I do go for items like toshiba. but I hear one of the better manufactures made this modem. Rating: Summary: Excellent product Review: Had trouble at first, but it was due to provider's configuration problem. After that was taken care of, everything was streaming. Went on Blizzard's Battle.net without a lag. Downloading was a breeze. How did I ever put up with 56K modems before? Highly recommend this product. The name Best Data says it all. Make sure your Cable Internet Provider supports this modem though.
Rating: Summary: Cheap and effective Review: I bought this cable modem for one reason: It was the cheapest one I could find on my cable company's approved list. Since I have a network card in my computer, I didn't see any reason to pay more for a cable modem with USB... I called the cable company, gave them the MAC address, and I was online in about five minutes...
