Summary: a pleasing little thing that sounds good
Review: At the time that I bought this, it was the top of the range portable MD player, and you could tell by the price! That said, however, I was absolutely delighted with the sound, as well as the features. I've never actually used it for recording, since I also bought a big box minidisc to add to the hi-fi at home, but just having the feature there is handy in case you want to surrepticiously record someone else's CD in their home (I think you'd be crazy to use this machine as your only recorder. Get a proper recorder! This is just for listening on the move!).

Admitedly, the battery time is a bit short, but I always use the extra battery case, and can go for days or even weeks before needing new batteries. I also changed the earphones, since I reckon that you're better off with a more expensive pair that are more comfortable, and give better sound. I've had no trouble with my machine, and I've been using it regularly for over a year.

All in all, this little machine sounds really good (a lot better than tape, and indistinguishable from CD), loooks really cool, and has all the features that any nerd, sorry, technophile, could possibly want. If you can find it at a reasonable price, go ahead and get it.

Summary: Superb
Review: Excellent machine, records from non-digital sources to produce a very high quality of sound. All my old records and cassettes are now safety stored away and I'm listening to a better quality re-play on the mini-disk. If you have old LPs and cassettes that you treasure, buy one and listen to your classic sounds regularly and without worry of damage.

Summary: A Great Price, A Great Unit
Review: I bought this Minidisc player about three months ago and have found nothing but great features about it. Its light, durable, sounds great and is selling at an outstanding price. I've been able to drastically expand my music collection from both CD and computer. The sound quality is amazing. The only drawback is the life of the rechargable battery. I've found fully charged it lasts about four and a half hours. This hasn't been a problem for me yet. Although a short length of battery, I have yet to listen to my player for four and a half straight hours. Reccomended!

Summary: Awesome
Review: I bought this model from my electronics store, and I have to say that it is excellent. Not only do I use it to record music off of my CD's, but some of my favorite scenes from my DVD movies that I have. I have had if for a few months and have had zero problems with it.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is thinking about getting a MD Player/Recorder.

Summary: It Has a Pretty Good sound.
Review: I have a Sharp MS-722, and I bought a Sony MZ-R55. In my opinion the Sharp MS-722 has the same type of sound of the Sony MZ-R55. The Sharp is cheaper and has the same quality sound as the Sony MZ-R55!!!! The only difference is the weight of the MD.

Summary: For Audiophiles, this is the only unit that will due.
Review: I have had 3 different sony mini-disc portables.

If you are going to buy only 1 unit ( I have a full deck and this portable ) you'll be frustrated with anything less than this one. That's because the control placement for editing are well designed.

If you have two units ( 1 deck and 1 portable ) you should have this as part of you portable. I bought the sony bundle first ( the deck and portable unit ). The problem here is you can't record or edit with the portable. I real bummer if you go over to your friends place and hear something you've gotta have. Not to mention if you need to record a meeting or a lecture, you'll be out of luck if you've bought the sony bundle.

I run with this unit and it will skip only about 3 times over 8 miles of terrain.

The other nice thing about this is it small. Fits in you shirt pocket. If you'll be editing while your jogging like I do, the add on battery pack that holds an additional 2 AA is a nice feature.

Summary: Two MZ-R55 and one MDS-PC1(midi disk deck with computer soft
Review: I purchased the first MZ-R55 and had to also get a MDS(mini disk deck/editor with computer interface and software) for it's optical output. The second was purchased because the first was under repair(three weeks). I have noticed many sonic dropouts on playback and I am trying to find out why. Apart from these hickups, I find the MZ-R55 quite useful.

Summary: An excellent Portable Md unit!
Review: I really enjoy my MZR-55 a whole lot. I mainly take it to the gymn regularly, but of course I take it many places with me. It has great resistance to shock, it never misses a beat. It is built very solid (I'm surprised by others who have reviewed this and don't think so, it is solid!) The sound quality is excellent, I couldn't be happier. The battery life is sufficient for my use as well. I've had this unit since June. I highly recommend it.

Summary: great
Review: i take several months to decide what minidisc i should buy, i bought de mz-r55 and im very happy with my decition, it has been a year and a half since it belongs to me and i have nothing to complain about it. i had recorded several blanks, like 50, with any problems. i love the remote control. i love it size. i take it anywhere. the only thing that you must be aware is to have batteries. if you're prepared for that, then you can listen to your music with an excellent sound quality anytime. i love to go to my friends flats and record a disc if i like it, or only some songs. you can do anything!!!!!!!
