Rating: Summary: A buggy product that works Review: After reading the reviews I decided to give it a try, in the hope that I wouldn't see many problems others reported. I ran it to capture a couple hours of video (VCD quality) and found similar problems.
1. CapWiz crashes once. It's definitely a bug in the software.
2. When the scenes change and there's empty signal in between, the capwiz will freeze. I have to resume recording manually.
3. Sometimes it will capture nothing (black) while the video is running. Need to restart several times to make it work.
Finanlly I managed to overcome all the unpleasure problems and got the job done. The longest footage I captured is about 50 mins and I don't see audio out of sync as other reviewers said. I have Athlon 1.2G, 256M ram and geforce ti 4200.
Rating: Summary: It lags, captures off center, and other bugs Review: For about the 1st hour, everything worked just perfect. It was downhill after that. The video capture preview started displaying off center, and the video clips themselves were being recorded off center. Updating the software had no effect. A download of the lastest Directx from Microsoft finally seemed to correct that problem. The only thing that works as advertised is the "Audio Lock" technology, which is why I purchased the product. The Movie Studio software causes my system to lag terribly, so I uninstalled it and use my Roxio software instead. I have a brand new Dell 4600 with the Pentium 4 processor, 1GB of ram, and a 86 Gig harddrive so it's not likely that my PC is inadaquet. I don't recommend this product until ALL the bugs are corrected.
Rating: Summary: Stops capturing after 34 to 35 seconds Review: I bought this DVD Express unit in December to capture from my analog camcorder, V8 tape. Working on WinXP Professional, 2.8GHz, Intel, 512Mb memory. The problem I have encountered is that it only captures about 34 to 35 seconds of footage before it stops converting and capturing. No warning to say that it has crashed out, not that it should crash out anyway. The red record button on the CapWiz stays activated and the recording timer stays counting. However the 34-35 seconds of footage is recorded on hard drive. To continue I have to rewind tape and re-start Capwiz. What a nuisance. With about 35 hrs of tapes to convert this is very annoying. The footage it does capture is excellent and I find Ulead Video Studio very good for editing. ( I have spent the time at desifering the mechanism of video studio, almost like putting a 1000 piece gigsaw together, but I've got there and I'm happy with video studio)
Can anyone help with this crashing problem?
Rating: Summary: Hardware=Good, Software=Bad Review: I bought this product yesterday from Circuit City. I just got a chance to try it out, after reading the manual i thought i'd give it a try. Setup and installation is VERY easy. Capturing video from my Hi8 Analog camcorder was really easy too. The software that came with the product is called Capture Wizard. Capture Wizard simply just captures the video, but it does not allow you to edit the video in any way...this program has not crashed on me yet. The product also comes with another software program called Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE DVD which allows you to capture video, edit video/audio, special effects and more. Problem is when i capture video thats more than a few mintues the program crashes without warning, so if you don't save your work EXTREMELY REGULARLY then you will get utterly frustrated. I thought something was wrong with my computer so i defragged and virus scanned and then tried it again only for it to crash one more time. Here is my system specs: 1. AMD Athlon XP+ 1600 (1.4ghz) 2. 40gb 7200 rpm hard drive (with 20gb free) 3. Nvidia GeForce 4 64mb video card 4. cd burner and dvd drive 5. 256mb DDR-RAMI think i will purchase more RAM today and then try it again. If i don't write another review for this product then it means it didn't fix the problem.
Rating: Summary: Worst USB Product Ever Review: I had hopes for this product. There are people out there who have given this good reviews, both on this and other sites. Claiming that it does a superior job of video capturing. Well, it simply does not work. Period. Avoid at all costs. It installed fine, drivers and software, and I attempted to capture some video. It crashed within a minute, with the picture freezing. I had to turn off my computer to get out of the program, it would not let me do it any other way. After that? Guess what -- my computer no longer recognized the device! I reinstalled the driver, got new drivers off the ADS Tech site and tried those, tried reinstalling the software (and got a different version off the site). Still, it does not recognize that there is a capture card! This, after doing it the very first (unsuccessful) capture attempt. Very bizarre. I have other USB devices that I hook up to my laptop, including a soundcard, and have never encountered such a problem. Do not buy this, or you will be out postage to return the thing. It's a total piece of junk, no matter what some reviewers may say.

Rating: Summary: Good Product at a Good Price Review: I have used the DVD Express 2.0 for 2 weeks now and have been very pleased with the results. I have backed up approximatly 10 hours of home videos using both Capture Wizard and Video 7 SE and have not had any problems with lock ups of the software. I have the DVD Express plugged into a ADS Tech USB 2.0 card and have captured up to 2 1/2 hours worth of 720 by 480 mepeg 2 video at 9/mbs. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is that the Video 7 SE software that is included is limited in its function. I would recommend this product to anyone for analog capture.
Rating: Summary: Works fine, with some attention Review: I originally gave this device a low rating, but now I've converted about 30 hours of Hi8 and VHS tape to DVD, and I have to say that's it's a decent buy for the money. Here's why I say that...
The first one I got was DOA - - would not even turn on. Bad start. But to their credit, both ADS and Amazon were great about a return. So a new one showed up 2 business days later.
And it works. I've transferred tapes from a Hi8 camcorder and a VHS player now - - and no serious problems yet. It's been a reliable, no-frills transfer device for me - - someone with a 10+ year library of analog tapes to put on DVD.
Here are the problems: Do NOT use the "Direct to disc" option. The result is horrible - off-sync audio, mainly. Go to your hard disk, then burn the DVD.
The bundled Ulead software is cryptic, and the instructions are of no help whatsoever. And there's no in-program help. So it's "figure it out yourself". I use the bundled "Capture Wizard" to capture all of the analog video to my HD, and it's worked fine so far. A few crashes, but nothing that corrupted what I had captured. Then I use Ulead to burn the mpg's to DVD - - and I don't try and edit individual mpg files - - I just burn them on the DVD as separate files. That has worked fine for me. I know there's alot of functionality to the Ulead software, but I don't have the patience to figure it out myself, and there's nothing in the package to help me.
Bottom line: for me, it's been a reliable, no-frills way of transcribing about 30 hours of analog tape to DVD. The hardware works, and the software will function adequately if you don't expect much from it, and provided you're not hoping for a no-brainer "out-of-the-box" experience.
Rating: Summary: Unable to get ADSTECH web site. Review: I purchased ADS DVD Xpress. I had problems with the color on the Capture Wizard software. I sent a emial stating my situation. They replied "Their working on it". That was three weeks ago. Now I can not get their website. When I click http://www.adstech.com I get a little boy's page or unable to find. I strongly recommend not to buy ADS products. I went to the store and purchased Plextor ConvertX. I had problems. I called Plextor they solved the problem on the phone. It now works very well.
