Summary: To the point
Review: Installation on a WindowsXP machine was as simple as simple can get. Simply plug the USB device into the machine, then plug your desired cable into your home theater a voila... music is sent to your theater as it should.

This product performs exactly as advertised. Only downside is that all computer sounds get sent to your home theater, so if you are listening to music at a high volume and you get mail... everybody knows.

Summary: good sound, reliable
Review: It worked as advertised, right out of the box. I keep it running 24/7 feeding music from a server I have running in the basement.

It sounds just as good as my run-of-the-mill CD player, which unfortunately isn't saying much! However, hooked up to a NAD amp and Definitive speakers the sound quality is very good.

Summary: Great sound, no hassles
Review: The Pro HiFi-Link is a great solution for getting music off a PC and into traditional audio systems. The device is external so there is no installation. The software nearly sets itself up and after plugging in a total of 2 cables (USB from my PC to the HiFi-Link and RCA-jack audio cables from the Link to a Sony receiver) I experienced sound that was 100% improved from the previous arrangement of audio from a PC headphone-out jack into the receiver's tape-in jacks.

My wife liked the way music could be selected and managed using the PC so she convinced me to connect the device to the sound system in our family room. Other than the not unexpected difficulties of snaking 100' of wire through the walls and attic to reach the other room, it was simple. I bought 100' of ordinary 75 ohm shielded coax cable ($22) and 2 adapters ($2 each) to change the F-connectors on the cable to RCA jacks. I then plugged one end into the digital out jack on the Pro HiFi-Link and the other into a digital input on my Onkyo surround receiver and the job was done. The sound quality is excellent and the analog output and the digital output work at the same time.

I highly recommend this device, particularly over noisy wireless solutions and other more expensive and less effective products on the market.

Summary: Reliable, Does What It Says
Review: The product works perfectly as advertised and installs with no issues. It's hard to say much more about that. But their customer service is exceptional. When I had a question, they responded almost immediately with a real answer, not a precanned reply that missed the point. I needed another 30' coax cable which they include with the product but don't sell separately, as I couldn't find one around. I asked to buy one, but since he couldn't sell me one, the customer service rep shipped me one absolutely free (and quickly).

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: The sound quality from my Toshiba M200 laptop headphone jack to my receiver (using the best Monster cable)was weak had you could hear a slight hiss. The first step (based on helpful reviews here) was to download the Izotope Ozone plug-in for Windows Media Player 9.0 (they also support other players too).
This noticably improved my 192Kbps WMA and MP3 files sound. You can download the free seven day demo and hear for yourself. Guarantee'd you'll buy this once you hear the difference. OK, enough said about that. Next I couldn't resist coupling this with the Xitel Pro-HiFi link. I bought this for the Optical connection. The great thing is that it comes with a 30' optical connector which allows me to kick back in my living room chair several feet away and play the best quality music from my laptop that I've ever heard. This is a winner - buy it!!!

Summary: XITEL PRO~ A TRUE...No Brainer!
Review: This 'IZ' what I was looking for...Sound that bypasses my "Great Sound Card" and Processed thru my 'BETTER' Yamaha Receiver...200GB Hard Drive gives me HIGH VOLUME availability...MP3, DVD and anything I record onto the HD(Even OLD Vinyl Records). Truely AMAZING Quality with Music Match Software. Endless MUSIC. The Ultimate Juke Box...I can finally store ALL my AUDIO CDz away.
This became about a 10 minute project with my 12 year old. Totally easy, my 6 year old could have done by himself! ANALOG RCA connection works fine, with AudioFile Cables. If you get a HUM, a $10 Ground Loop Isolator, thru [local store] fixes that easily. We eventually went the TOSlink Optical~ BINGO, quality went up and is BETTER than CD. Auxillary Input in Receiver/Amp is the connection I use, from USB1.1 into PC. WinXP reads plug & play...Inclosed DVD Software is as simple. Music Match Jukebox, is the Software I use for all the files...Have tried all & still remains the BEST. Constant Upgrades and getting close to STUDIO Recording Standards. I am 50 Sump'n and a Neofite Techi...Grand Pa, this is EVEN 4U!

Summary: Good for digital connections; Useless for analog connection
Review: This product is exclusively for making **digital** connections to your stereo. This product offers **nothing** for making analog connections to your stereo.

Don't know why Xitel bothers to put analog outputs on this device because the device inserts a 60 hz hum into the music just like what happens if you run an analog connection straight from your computer's sound card.

If you dig down into Xitel's web site you'll see that they sell an audio isolation transformer for $35 to eliminate the 60 hz hum caused by a ground loop between the computer and stereo.

Pros:
* The cables are almost worth the price alone.
* Easy install & operation

Cons:
* This product is really just for making an **optical/digital** connection to your stereo. The analog RCA connection introduces a 60 hz hum to the music just like what would happen if you ran a cable from you computer's sound card.
* Could you buy a sound card with an optical output and an optical cable for $90?

Summary: Reliable, Does What It Says
Review: This product is very simple and does exactly what it says. It plays all my mp3's on my receiver in digital format. There's not really any software associated with the device itself (but dvd playing software is included). It's just a usb device. I've never had any problems at all with it's reliability. However, at first I thought the sound was a little tinny. But I adjusted the Eq settings on my computer and now the thing bangs.

At first I was going to use the digital output on my soundblaster audigy. But I heard in some messageboard that this output was not meant for receivers because it was a different voltage than the digital coax a receiver would accept. That was the main factor in my purchase. Plus I didn't want to use a crappy Y-cable.

Pros:
- Play mp3's all day long with digital quality
- Simple setup (just plug-in and change sound device)

Cons:
- Must adjust Eq settings
- More expensive than a Y-cable
- All of your computer's sounds (not just mp3's) play through your sound system
