Summary: inadequate directions for 510
Review: i got my daughter a logitech prof 3000 web cam, and decided to get logitech quickcam 510 because of digital cam option for home. Read directions, installed software, etc. Digital cam did not work. Had to go to logitech web site to find directions. Found information needed for installing and formating smart media card. I was really disappointed that the directions for using/installing media card were not included in set up directions.(kinda like they forgot about the digital cam option) Eventually had to return the cam - prior to ever using it - smart media could not be fomatted - or removed!!! and - the pics in low light when used as web cam were really dark.... may consider the prof 3000 that daughter has - low light is better and it has a microphone... would like to stay with same company for both - however - have heard of other web cams in price range ...
I wonder why logitech would not include a formatted smart media card,and/or proper directions and i have submitted that suggestion to the company.
still waiting for web purchase to subtract from visa so i can move on - student will graduate from college, and be well into career by the time i get cams working to communicate with her! LOL

Summary: Best webcam available
Review: I got this for my birthday and couldn't be happier with it. The Clicksmart 510 is basically an all-in-one digital camera used for both digital pictures and video chatting. I mainly use it to video chat with my best friend who lives in New Jersey, but it also offers reasonable quality when used as a standalone digital camera.

I haven't used the 15 fps video-camera ability yet, but it seems more like a feature they tagged on (the camera's onboard memory only allows for two minutes of full motion video).

If you want a webcam and can't afford an additional digital camera, go with this. Even if you just want a webcam, this is the best you can get, and is well worth the price.

Summary: Great to play with with
Review: I got this puppy for X-mas and I really enjoy the features. The really cool thing about it is that I can switch from camera mode to video mode with ease. The video mode is really nice. For X-mas we emailed a 2 min video to friends and family wishing them a merry christmas. My son showed off his toys. This is what I was looking for. {A webcam, digital camera, and mini camcorder all in one.} I can see this puppy going on a lot of trips with me this summer. Only wish they had a carrying case to go with it. So that's why I'm giving it 4 stars.

Summary: Great Camera for the money!
Review: I just bought the Logitech ClickSmart 510 Digital Camera and I think it's great. It takes great pictures for the price. If you are a true photographer I would NOT reccomend this camera to you. This camera is simply good for a first digital camera or people looking to take pictures to email or post on a website. It also doubles as a webcam. It's quality from that stand point is pretty nice. It also stores up to 90 seconds of low res. video which is good for capturing the amusment park ride or a trip down the waterslide. The button on the front of the camera is great for uploading pictures in a snap. On the downside, the camera doesn't have a zoom feature or a picture preview but other than that I can say this is a great camera for the money, and I am very happy with my purchuse. :-D

Summary: Web Cam Only
Review: I primarly baught this as a webcam, to chat with my friends and family, while living overseas. It has been fabulous as a webcam, and so far I'm pleased with the way it performs. I also baught one for my father, and he has been pleased with his as well. However, I've had issues with the media card that came with it. I only took one picture with mine (several with my fathers), and now it won't work. I went to the FAQ page for logitech and apparently it's a normal problem. They claim I have to have the card replaced. I'm not greatly bothered by this, as I was planning on getting a larger card anyway, but until I do, the fact that the camera is a dual mode means nothing. This is the reason I only give it four stars. However, my dad hasn't had any problems with his, so I'd recommend this camera to anyone. In fact, I already have.
Also,as a digital camera, don't expect anything spectacular. If you wan't a great digital picture, get a great digital camera. I baught this to give myself a clear picture when chatting online, not to get a great picture.

Summary: Great Webcam
Review: I purchased this camera at a local electronics store....It was on sale for 99 bucks and for the price it was well worth it...As a webcam image quality is good, with smooth clear video which I like more than my Creative webcam. As a digital camera it's not quite as good, with images coming out so-so, but not terrible either. For the price you can't expect it to take the best looking pictures as a more expensive professional type digital camera would, also it is only 1.3 megapixels, but i'm happy with it and recommend it to beginners who want to buy a digital camera or someone looking for a good webcam and don't want to spend lots of cash.

Summary: Awesome as a webcam!
Review: I was looking for a digital webcam, and received this one as a gift. The quality of the webcam pics is very clear. I do have to have it set on the low light option for when I don't have outside light in the room. But the pictures are crystal clear, which was what I was looking for. I had the logitech quick cam before and the image quality was crap on that. I haven't tried it out as a digital cam yet, just been using it as a webcam. It was super easy to setup as a webcam, however there really weren't any instructions with it, on how to use it as a digital cam, they were very brief, but I'm sure I can figure it out when I decide to use it as a digital camera also. For those looking for a better than average webcam, this one is the one for you, and it has the bonus of being a digital camera as well. Good deal for those just starting out with digital cameras.

Summary: Not for everyone
Review: If you don't have a digital camera, have no immediately plan to invest a big chunk of money into "real" digital camera, but you're looking to buy a webcam. If the descriptions fit you, then this handy little gizmo provides a perfect solution for all your imaging needs. As a webcam, it provides solid quality and idiot-proof usability of a traditional Logitech webcam. You just plug in the USB cable, install the software, and up you go (no extra power source is needed for the webcam feature). I tested mine with MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, and it worked just fine with both programs. As a digital cam, all you have to do is yank out the USB cable, load 4 AAA batteries, and point-and-shoot. The bundled 8MB flash stores up to 121 1,280 x 960 or 640 x 480 still images, 184 320X240 images, or a number of video clips (the amount of video can be stored depends on resolution and the length of the clip). When you're finished, plug the USB cable back, with one push of the "Sync" button, everything on the flash are downloaded to your computer. It's that simple. No fuss at all. The stills produced by the camera are, by no means, professional. They are not even print-quality, for that matter. But the pictures are good enough for emails or webpages.

I hear people complaining that the camera does not have a LCD display, the resolution for stills is too low (1280x960 is achieved by software enhancement, native max. res. is only 640x480), no zooming, and things of that sort. But come on, you can't really expect a 100 dollar camera performs like a 500 digital camera. In short, this is a camera for those who need a decent webcam and also a simple point-and-shoot for occasional low-quality stills. For those who want a high quality, high-end digital camera, have 800 bucks ready and look elsewhere. For those who already have a high-end digital camera but need a webcam, also move on, there are much cheaper webcams that perform at par with ClickSmart 510. I hope this helps.

Summary: Best Webcam + Not a gr8 Digital Camera!
Review: My 5 * rating is for its capability as webcam.

I seldom use it as a digital camera, as the pictures you take with it are not worth giving for print or adding to an online album.

I feel great to deliver HIGH quality live video of myself to beloved people 1000s of miles away at lower bandwidth. And its my proud digital possession.
