Summary: Great radio, but.....
Review: I have had three of these radios over the years, and find that they provide excellent reception. However, I have had a serious problem with all three; the screen gradually becomes unreadable, with various parts dropping out until little or nothing is left. Now, to be fair, my problem occurred on earlier versions of this radio, and they may have resolved the issue in the current version. But my faith in progress does not extend to my buying one of the new ones.

Summary: Great AM Reception for distant stations!
Review: I like to listen to sports and talk radio, but often can't pick it up as I live in a rural area. I could never enjoy AM radio on my component radio or even small ones. I got the best ones at Radio Shack and they did not pick up the stations from 50 miles away. I got this one and it is Great! I immediately was able to pick up the AM stations from 50 to 60 miles away and clearly with very little background noises. Also does well with FM but not stereo in speaker. Works for a long time on D Cell batteries (4) also. A little pricey, but the ONLY ONE THAT PICKS UP DISTANT AM STATIONS WITH EASE!

I would highly recommend it to folks who cannot get AM radio in rural areas.

Summary: CC Radio Features
Review: I waited before writing this review to give myself some time to get aquainted with this much advertised radio. I found that the AM reception was about as good as other radios I own; nothing special. The FM reception is fine. The long battery life is a great feature but the unusual shape of the rear battery compartment makes laying it on it's back a problem. My complaints are with the user interface. I found that the station preset buttons are annoying. More often than not, you can press a button, feel and hear the click but the station does not change. I've designed a lot of electronic products during my career. When you have both a tactile and sound feedback in response to a button-push, you expect the function to be executed. The LCD backlight is also annoying. When you turn on the unit while it is connected to an AC outlet, the light automtically comes on. I find myself turning it off every time. Also, if the backlight is on and you unplug the unit, it stays on even when you turn the radio off.

Summary: The best am-fm-tv radio I have had
Review: I've been using a CCRadio since 1999 mostly for AM radio reception. I really enjoy AM talk radio for financial and legal advice, plus the entertainment value. Often I need to listen when I am in a remote area hiking and the CCRadio outperforms any other unit, period. I also use it inside my office where ALL other radios emit nothing but static due to the 115VAC power lines nearby. This radio is large and heavy, but if you want to hear distant stations, it is better than any other on the market. Once my radio broke and I called the CCRadio guys...They repaired it for NO Charge. Talk about service ! Plus the reason it broke was my fault...

Summary: Buy something else . . . here's why
Review: I've owned this product for two years, and don't recommend it. The much-hyped AM reception is vastly overstated in the C. Crane's advertising. I tested this unit against my car radio, which is nothing special. The standard radio in my car does MUCH better at pulling in distant stations.

Within a year the alarm function failed and the station quick-select buttons sometimes don't work unless you really bear down on them.

I sent the unit in for repair ($50) only to find out C. Crane needs at least 4 weeks to do the work. Absurd. They don't give a damn about service. I sent the president/manager of the company an email and never got a response. You can find a better radio and a better company than C. Crane.

I will never buy another C. Crane product.

Summary: CC CRANE RADIO
Review: Short and to the point. No complaints with the AM reception.

Not that it matters, as someone plopping down $150 for AM radio wont really care, the FM/Weather band reception is absolutely deplorable.

AM reception well worth the price.

Summary: NICE digital AM receiver
Review: The BEST thing about the CCradio, is that the digital AM tuning is in 1 Khz steps (not the typical 10 Khz steps) which means, with other digital radios, each step in tuning will go like: 870, 890, 900, 910 etc. But with the CCradio, you can tune: 870, 871, 872, 873, etc.

Since there are no other stations there, why is this great? Because, if say, you want to listen to 890 AM, if you tune to 891 or 892, you will hear the same station, but it will sound better with more highs, closer to the sound of an FM station.

Plus, if there is another station close to the frequency you want to listen to, you can tune more to the side away from the offending station.

This radio is marketed and hyped for the best AM reception, so I didn't expect much with the FM side, but I was pleasantly surprised! The FM side is great for distant stations as well.

I have a friend who has this radio as well, and here are the only problems we both have with our CCradios...

If you leave the backlight on for a few hours, some of the LCD display segments go out and look like it is broken. Turning off the backlight, after a while they come back and work again.

You can still tune the radio, but it looks weird when this problem occurs, so I turn on the backlight, tune in the stations, then turn the backlight off again.

Also, sometimes if you hit the preset buttons on the top, you will sometimes activate the clock setting or timer for some reason, even though you are not touching those buttons at all.

This doesn't happen often, and overall this is a really great radio to have, it has TV audio as well, so you can watch TV in the bedroom but have the sound come out of your CCradio at your bedside instead of from across the room.

It has weather band too.

And an alarm clock, so it makes a great bedside radio, although it is hard to find the sleep timers and backlight buttons in the dark.

I recently replaced this radio at my bedside with the Boston Acoustics Receptor which I like a lot better as a bedside radio than the CCradio.

However, I would never get rid of the CCradio, nothing else tunes in 1 Khz steps for AM. Seperate Bass and Treble controls are nice, but although they say the radio was designed for optimal sound for the "human voice", I find I need to turn up both the treble and bass controls to maximum to get the BEST sound out of this radio, for voice OR music. But that is usually the case for any radio with tone controls.

I find the price is a bit high for this radio.

Summary: The best am-fm-tv radio I have had
Review: There is an old proverb you get what you pay for and this radio
is an example of that. I have just gotten my radio this past week
and I am hearing stations on AM and the TV band radio I have never
heard before on any other radio I have owned, I also like the
reception on the FM station, but my primary use will be for AM
and TV band radio. I also like the weather band for up to date
weather information during storms.
I know that this radio costs a little more but I feel it is well worth the price.
it.
