Summary: Protection without convenience
Review: As with CliffBreining (see other review), I found that my Panasonic DMR-HS2 wouldn't recognize or format these cartridges right out of the packaging. The Memorex packaging claims that the internal DVD-RAM disk is removable, but gives no instructions anywhere on how to do so. ...(1) Orient the cartridge printed-side up, text right side up.
(2) Using an ice pick or equivalent, punch out the round plastic plug above and to the left of the write-protect switch.
(3) Stick the blade of a tiny, flat-blade screwdriver into the little notch on the left edge of the cartridge (directly in line with the hole you just knocked the plug out of) and push in.
(4) The bottom edge of the cartridge will now swing open (hinged on the right). Remove the disk inside carefully, not touching the bottom side of the disk. Insert the disk (sans cartridge) in your DVD recorder and format.
(5) Re-insert the disk in the cartridge and close the bottom side until it clicks shut.

Even with that, of the two DVD-RAM cartridges I bought, one was still unformattable due to scratches on the recording side (which were there in spite of my very careful removal of the disk). I cannot recommend these for any DVD recorders that cannot format them in the cartridge.

Review: BOUGHT 5 DISCS AND ONLY ONE WILL FORMAT. ONE CAME WITH SEVERE SCRATCHES.

Summary: Cumbersome but High Quality
Review: Getting the DVD out of its container and formatting it is a bit of a bother but the quality of the recordings (DVD Film) is excellent. The price is right especially when compared to the Panasonic 3-pack

Summary: Only useable if removed from the cartridge
Review: I have a PowerMac G4 Gigabit Ethernet and bought this to back up my important files only to be unable to initalize it. I had to get help from Apple's discussion board to find out that I have to remove the disc from the cartridge and instructions on how to do it. The other posters also described a high rate of failure for Memorex DVD-RAM discs so I recommend you getting another brand, even if it costs a bit more.

Summary: buyer beware
Review: No where in the ad does it state that Type 2 means a disc in a cartridge. This product is not compatible with the new Panasonic hard disk/burner that I bought.

Summary: No worries
Review: So far I have only used this product for mass storage and to transport publisher files of one gig or better. I am contemplating using it for more serious backup. The storage function is transparent and acts as any disk would. I have tested a few to be sure that there was no production problem that may have been missed on the first try. Everything works fine.

Summary: This is Everything it is Supposed to Be.
Review: This product is great if you have the right software and DVD player. You could use this product for transfering large files from computer to computer, but I have uploaded my home videos and used a burning software that allows me to watch movies in VCD formate on my DVD player (not the one in the computer though). I put over 3 hours of video onto this one disc which makes storage really easy. Above all, I have been completely satisfied with all Memorex products that I have purchased. For those of you who know how to use this massive DVD disc and are able to put videos, I reccommend getting a disc with greater capacity for those will not only have more space, but you can put videos of greater quality on them. All in all, I love this product and the ease of using a DVD RAM disc.
