Summary: Utobia = rebadged good stuff
Review: Despite what one or two reviewers have said, this particular drive (the 16x kit ships with a Pioneer-DVD115) is definitely not 'junk', it is if fact one of the better DVD drives I have encountered. Although a bit on the noisy side when reading CD-ROMs (but what 40x or greater drive isn't?) I have found little else to complain about.

Not only is this an excellent DVD drive but the included HollywoodPlus Real Magic DVD decoder card is a definate plus. It gives you full-screen playback on both your PC and TV. The TV out is great, as it bypasses your graphics card, allowing you to watch DVD's on your TV without altering your computer's display settings. If these happen to come back in stock (doubtful, from what I have been told) grab one and enjoy!

Summary: Working fine so far.
Review: How good can a un-recognized brand dvd can do? This product works really fine in my opinion, it doesn't show any differences from my dvd player. The MPEG card provide lots of features including 5.1 digital output, and video out, really match those who do not have a premium sound/video card.

Summary: Utobia Drives
Review: I bought a Utobia 16x/40X DVD stand alone drive several months ago and have had nothing but good performance from it in all applications. My DVD's play just fine without a hardware decoder board, and furthermore this drive screams at transferring files. It very nearly keeps up with my Plextor Ultraplex40 40x SCSI CDROM. Perhaps the drives bundled in this kit are different than the stand alone drive that I bought, but if they are the same drive I would highly reccommend this kit to anyone for the price. Just wanted to add my $.02 since I felt the first reviewer may have been giving Utobia an unfair shake.

Summary: Utobia definitely not utopia!!!
Review: I have had nothing but trouble with this drive. I've tried various configurations and still get a choppy bad picture. I would not recommend this drive. Furthermore, my drive seems to have trouble reading cd-rw's and that really sucks.

Summary: This is really a nice combination
Review: Since people tend to only write in when they have bad experiences, I'll write about my good ones. I own a Pioneer 116 which I purchased for ... OEM. That was such a great drive for me, I thought I'd order this kit for a little less and get the MPEG2 decoder card. It really works nice for me. There are not drivers for Windows 2000, but I still got it to work, and the Pioneer 115 DVD-ROM which ships with it is really a great drive. It perfectly mimics my 116, which is supposed to be a better unit. I don't konw what those other guys were talking about when they had a hard time. I'm guessing they don't know much about computers. If you know anything, you shouldn't have a problem getting some hardware to run.

Summary: Great DVD Drive!
Review: This is my first experience with DVD's of any sort but this drive seems to be excellent. I have not tried out the decoder card yet but my software decoding works great. Looks great on my 19" monitor and I didn't notice any skips. Buy this with a great movie like the matrix and you'll have a great time. Supports 5.1 sound I think. I've got surround sound and it's amazing.

FYI - My decoder card came with Line out, digital out, tv out, vga out, and vga in. I heard that the digital out is pretty good. The tv out is svideo so it should be great for hooking upto a tv. If you don't need it I imagine that you could ebay it for a few bucks.

Overall a great drive & kit package!
