FreeBSD 4.2 is a full, professional quality, UNIX-compatible operatingsystem. It includes over 4,000 third-party software packages, all standardTCP/IP networking services, and a wide selection of Web servers, browsers,and e-mail software. FreeBSD is based on Berkeley 4.4 BSD, developed by theUniversity of California, Berkeley, and its contributors. This version includes many new features:

  • OpenSSL and OpenSSH bundled by default and upgraded to 0.9.5a/2.2.0(now includes RSA)
  • Sendmail upgraded to version 8.11.1
  • Support for AMD PCnet/FAST, PCnet/FAST+, PCnet/FAST III, PCnet/PRO,PCnet/Home, and HomePNA adapters
  • accept_filters, a kernel feature to reduce overheads when accepting andreading new connections on listening sockets
  • CVS upgraded to version 1.11
  • Hardware watchpoint support in GDB
