Summary: RCA - stick to making music
Review: 1. First of all, do not buy this item if you have already have many libraries of MP3's on CDR's. This item will not play most of them. The ones that it does play will be cut off 1 min or so into the song. It requires that you format them in a specific way to play the entire disc.

2. RCA/Thompson packs it with so many goodies, you want to buy it on impulse; car adapter, stereo cable, ac adapter, decent 'phones. That's what I did when I saw it at [a local store] BIG MISTAKE. It is loud, incompetent, pickier than a WASP at a sushi place, overall, a big pain in the rear. One of the few pluses was the software (Music Match), which I didn't even bother to open.

3. The interface is akward and LOUD. Compared with other models, this is a garbage disposal in a library. One plus, the tags on mp3's will be read in a nice way like the WinAmp interface.

4. The bloody thing won't play CD-R copies of original CD's! If you want people to buy your stuff, why not make sure it works. The songs would hang on the last few seconds. I would have to hit the cue button to advance. P.I.T.A! RCA/Thompson pulled a MS-like [mistake] by releasing this product with no remedy for it, besides shooting back into the hands of the retailer.

5. Go to Philips- they have a line of stuff I followed from reviews here. I've since bought an expanium model from Amazon and couldn't be happier (although the car adapter looks like a toy).

Summary: Performs very poorly on the road
Review: Nice design; nice layout of the buttons; seemed easy enough to figure out, even without the instructions; and the included adaptors and car kit are a bonus. That's about all the good things I have to say! The bad: it cuts off songs randomly; it squeaks, squeals, hisses and pops at random and LOUDLY. Also, I had to hold the cassette part of the adapter into my car's player for a few seconds because it kept kicking out. I had the unit a total of 2 days before I returned it, and only because the store was closed on Christmas day. Other customers reviews I read about this product (on Yahoo's shopping guide) mentioned similar problems too.

Summary: Worst CD Player Imaginable
Review: Okay, when playing MP3s I want to strangle it. It makes weird noises and skips constantly.

Playing normal CDs, it doesn't make the weird noises, but skips constantly and cuts off the end of songs. (It has a "feature" that cuts off what it considers silence at the end of tracks -- well, it makes CDs that you've listened to normally that have fade outs and such, sound horrible)

It doesn't even work anymore; it thinks the player is open and won't play. I tried to fix this so the really tiny button inside would always be pushed down to make it think it's closed, but, I got annoyed with it and gave up.

It requires 4 batteries and is huge..needless to say, it eats the batteries up really fast. Actually, it won't even play unless you have really good batteries - it said my batteries were dead and I put them in a battery detector and it said they were all "Good" ... of course, the batteries worked with other devices.

Summary: Performs very poorly on the road
Review: Overall I'm very disappointed with this unit and I have a myriad of reasons why.

When I'm driving and playing a CD, if the CD skips once then it continues to skip over and over again (either silently or with audio like a broken record). I have to manually advance to the next track to make it stop, and half the time that doesn't solve the problem. Even with the ESP enabled and the unit sitting stationary on a flat surface, I have never made it through an entire audio CD without a skip.

When playing audio CD-R's I have to manually advance from each track to the next because the player has trouble distinguishing where one track ends and another begins. It will often get hung up playing the last second of a track over and over.

When playing MP3 CD-R's the performance is intolerably bad. Every time I go over a tiny bump or crack on the highway the MP3 player lets out a digital squawk and moves to a different point in the track or to another track altogether, or completely degrates into garbled digital noise. This makes the music completely unlistenable and completely negates the fact that I paid extra money for the MP3 playing feature.

Not to mention that the display is confusing and difficult to navigate, and I have to take my eyes off the road to tinker with it every time the player experiences a problem, which is dangerous.

I have had lots of problems getting RCA to service this unit under warranty, and they keep trying to pile extra charges on for shipping and repairs that aren't covered under warranty. Believe me, I'm not giving RCA another dime of my money.

Summary: Nothing works better on the road!
Review: This is a great deal! You buy a complete package with 100-second skip protection mp-3 playback which is great to use in the car with cassette adapter (never skipped in my car). Wires are made with a resistant material and the display allows you to make variable selections of 200 songs. Music quality output is wonderful, DBBS with surround effect works great! Really worth the price!

Summary: New and not improved
Review: This player is, to say the least, terrible. Performance with MP3 playback is useless, songs cut out during play or turn to high speed Chipmunks.

Bad Menus, poor controls, all in all a most unsatisfying experience.
