Description:

This product is a license. The software described below must be purchased separately.

Attachmate's e-Vantage Viewer is a thin, terminal emulator in the form of a Java applet that provides access to Unisys, IBM, DEC/VAX, and UNIX hosts, as well as IBM AS400 systems from within a standard Web browser. Attachmate e-Vantage Viewers provide an opportunity to Web-enable your enterprise by extending host access to remote or occasional users. The viewers are invoked when licensed users launch their Web browsers, visit a Web site, and select to run the emulator. When users perform these three simple steps, the Java applets dynamically download and run from their Webtops--desktops running a Web browser.

Because e-Vantage Viewer applets are small, they download quickly, regardless of how fast or slow the network is, resulting in virtually no waiting time for the user. Since e-Vantage Viewers are accessed through an Internet, intranet, or extranet connection and a familiar Web browser, an administrator no longer has to deploy or support a local application for each user. It offers the familiar look and feel of traditional emulation screens. The Attachmate e-Vantage Viewer applet is a thin terminal emulator, and offers the choice of a framed or embedded view. Regardless of the chosen view, there is no need to retrain the users, because the applets look and act just like the emulators in the desktop product with which they are already familiar.

Once the Viewer applet downloads, communication between the browser and the Web server ceases (reducing network traffic) and only the host connection remains. Centrally managed applets mean no end-user installation, configuration, and maintenance. The viewers are configured by an administrator, then placed on a Web server where they are available for individual Webtops. Because e-Vantage Viewers reside on a centrally located server, administrator configuration and maintenance is easy--there is no need to travel to remote locations to install, configure, or support host access software. No client software also means lower cost per user, and no end-user configuration reduces administrator support activities.
