Summary: Maybe it's the singer and not the song.
Review: .
I too am a prolific writer and I have always preferred WordPerfect over the clownish Microsoft Word that, as with all Microsoft products, is a simply Frankenstein of features lifted from the programs of other companies.

WordPerfect 8 was so buggy an inefficient that I came close to dumping the program. Happily, versions 9 to the present have been constant improvements over both its former incarnations and its competitors. I loved WordPerfect 10.

I now have WordPerfect 11. I admit I've only had it for a short while; so far, though, it has worked perfectly. It loads FASTER than former versions and certainly no slower than my version of Word 2002. It converts files to and from other formats. Publishes flawlessly to HTML and PDF. TextArt works much better than any previous versions or Microsoft's sad little imitation of it. It works perfectly with all my printers (and I have several types, models, and brands of printer rigged up to a wireless network) and I've had no problem -- with or without updated drivers.

I do admit with one embarassment -- that WordPerfect has nothing that comes close to competing with Mr. Paperclip, that cute little helper for Microsoft Word. I think if they had one, WordPerfect might sell a lot better.

I am reminded of a song from the sixties. It has become for me a metaphor for many aspects of life. It was called: It's the singer, not the song."

Summary: Question
Review: I am here because I can't find anywhere else to ask a question. What are the licensing implications of buying a copy of WordPerfect Office 11 from jmurray36 for 49.95? This appears to be the same package that normally sells new for $249.00. How come? What is missing. How can it be sold for this price?

Summary: Why a simple bug cannot be fixed?
Review: I am not going to repeat the pro's and con's other people have written about WordPerfect. I have only one question today: Why is the WordPerfect unable to remove a simple bug in its Multinational Characters set? This set contains two characters, #1,206 and #1,207 (letters "Z" and "z" with a diacritical sign called hachek). These characters do not display on screen and do not print. If one needs to produce a serious text which requires these characters, one can forget about WordPerfect.

This bug sneaked into one of the earlier editions of WordPerfect. It was fixed in the SP3 of WordPerfect 9 and I thought that this solved the problem.

But the bug was re-introduced into WordPerfect 10, survived all its upgrades and merrily migrated to the most recent WordPerfect 11, including the latest update (WP11 00300). So much for progress.

Such a fault is unacceptable in a serious software, especially one that has the word "Perfect" in its name.

Summary: OMG, it's even better!
Review: I finally decided it was time to upgrade from WP Suite 8 to WP Office 11 on my home computer, just because I wasn't getting very accurate file conversions from things I bring home from work where we use MS Office 2000. I was used to WordPerfect 7 and 8 adding very little to what WordPerfect 6 had, so I was surprised today when I started writing a document from scratch with WP11 and stumbled across some serious new features just in the font selection dialog! It's apparent that WP11 is more than just an updated office suite. It really is enhanced word processing like you'll find nowhere else.
For those of you wondering whether to switch from that other office suite, I can't count how many times I've been at work using that other software and thinking, "This would be so much easier with Wordperfect," or "Why can't I do that? WordPerfect will do that." Or, "You've got to be kidding. I've spent half the day trying to do this only to find out it can't be done, when I could have gone home and done it on WordPerfect in less than half an hour."
Seriously, folks, this is one of those good things that people just don't know about because all they've ever seen is Word. Check it out, it's really cool! (And it's cheaper.)

Summary: Very Surprised
Review: I got to say that I was pretty skeptical when I purchased this. I work for a court reporting company that widely uses WordPerfect 5.1. Anyone will tell you that WordPerfect 5.1 was the best, but its beginning to get really hard to run it just right in the latest operating systems. What caught my attention about WordPerfect 11 was the Classic 5.1 Environment. With everyone working at my company on 5.1 It may be the way to go to get everyone up-to-date. Corel should have done this along time ago! My first few minutes playing around with it and reading the manual to get it into classic mode it was nice. The product seems to be pretty solid, unlike past WordPerfect Windows releases. I didn't do anything real in-depth: did some typing, printing and opening up some older documents save some new ones and see how they were cross compatible. Everything has worked great for me so far. This may be just what my company needs.

Summary: Runs only with Microsoft!
Review: I have been a fan from Wordperfect since the time of DOS, and have kept upgrading it, because I found it technically superior to its concurrent, and because it was a alternative to the hegemony of Microsoft. However, for the same two reasons, now that Linux has become easy to use and rich in programs, I am leaving Microsoft operating systems. And there lies the problem : Wordperfect 11 does not run under Linux, but only under the recent versions of Microsoft's operating system. Too bad, I am greatly disappointed in Wordperfect. I think that if they don't understand that their faithful users are the kind of people that are leaving the Microsoft world towards Linux, they will in the end have to disappear. Anyway I would have preferred to run Wordperfect under Linux, but I will have to use another program for compatibility reasons. Bye-bye old friend wordperfect...

Summary: Not as good as expected
Review: I have been a long-time fan of Word Perfect - since Version 4.0 days. But so far I have been disappointed with 11.0. I do not see much change from 11.0, the upload time is slow and it continuously freezes my computer (using Windows Me). In addition, I understood the upgrade was to include Paradox (database) but apparently it does not.

Summary: As along time user....
Review: I have been a user since Version 1, with a very low registration number. I upgraded from Ver 6 to 8, then to 9, and it crashed and wrecked my system. I rebuilt my system, and reinstalled Ver 8. I was a bit hesitant to go to 11, but did. No problems with the installation. However, I kept the previous versions of Presentations and am glad I did. I find importing jpg files into Presentations 11 in draw mode distorts the picture. But there are nice features of Presentations 11 that are superior to that in Ver 8. I create some of the material in Presentations Ver 11, and save and then open into Version 8 to finish it off for imported graphics. I also like the clip art better in Ver 8 than that for Ver 11. Overall, I guess I am disappointed that Ver 11 is not a leap ahead of Ver 8. Perhaps the only compelling reason to upgrade is if you are at a previous version that will soon require the full price rather than the upgrade price for a future upgrade. I cannot stand WORD and greatly prefer Word Perfect but Corel needs to do more to justify an upgrade than simply issue a new version.
