Review: I'm a little leary of the "positive" reviews indicating that user's should 'fix the glitches in their OS"!Frankly, i won't buy any version 2003 or newer until i see better reviews! Currently, I run quicken 2000 OS9 on my OSX ibook... if you can find it, buy that instead!

Summary: Smooth Sailing with Quicken 2004
Review: I was very gun-shy about upgrading to Quicken 2004 after reading all the negative reviews on this site. I took the plunge and ordered it anyway, and it installed and updated my old data with absolutely no problems. Quicken has been one the most hassle-free applications I have ever used. I don't even have to think about it, the program just works.

Summary: Stick with your old version of Quicken!
Review: Do yourself a favor and skip Quicken 2004, or switch to MS Money if you have to upgrade. I'm running Jaguar on a G4 and had been using Quicken 98 in Classic mode with no problems, same as I had done in OS 9. I figured the 2004 version had to be even better, plus it seemed to be a no-brainer to run in native OS X mode. Wrong. 2004 crashes constantly, especially when reconciling. It doesn't *seem* to have corrupted my data yet (that I can see, at least) but the crashing alone is totally unacceptable--especially for a personal finance package that's tracking your money. I used to love Quicken but I'm soured on it forever now. I'm really thinking of getting a PC or running Virtual PC 6 so I can start using Money.

Summary: A dud of an "upgrade"
Review: I wish I had read some of the customer reviews here before "upgrading" from Quicken 2000 to Quicken 2004. I was pretty happy with 2000, but thought I'd be better off running in native OS-X mode. Big mistake! The new version is much slower than the old one and is less stable to boot. That's when running under Panther -- if you restart under 9.2.2 and try to use this program, it's a complete disaster. In either case, I've run into several major annoyances (apart from the crashes) in just a few days of use: (1) When you type text in a register field, the line of text has an annoying tendency to stretch and compress unpredictably, making it virtually impossible to place the cursor where you want to in order to make a correction. That didn't happen before! (2) Updating the prices in the investment portfolio used to be pretty fast, but now takes FOREVER. (3) When you finish reconciling a credit card account, the program no longer asks you if you want to pay the bill now; instead, you have to navigate to the checking account from which you are going to make the payment and enter the payment manually.

Summary: Buggy software; disappointing customer "service"
Review: The software is buggy and the publisher won't help debug it. While importing data from an earlier version of Quicken, this package selectively omits transactions. The customer-support system was utterly useless this afternoon. Ninety minutes into a frustrating web-based "support chat," the man said he wasn't trained to help me with the problem. I asked for another person to "chat" with, who suggested I manually enter the missing transactions. When I pointed out that I had 13 years worth of data in 21 accounts amounting to 20,000 transactions, they suggested I pay them $130 to convert the data for me. Pshaw. I wouldn't trust this software with my finances, nor would I trust this company.

Summary: The support is worse than the product
Review: A read-me file on the install disk warns if you track investments you will have to enter all partial lot stock sales by hand when converting from 2003 to 2004. I've used quicken for about 10 years and all upgrades have been fine, but this gliche would make it unusable - I would have to make more than 1000 entries (and the read-file says you have to do it TWICE). Customer service was the worst I have ever experienced (and believe me, I've seen some bad one in my day). No one even knows about this issue (its in a read-me file on the CD for God's sake) and I waited for more than 30 miinutes (no charge by the way). Apparanetly these people know less than the average user. The on-line support is virtually non-extistant - no e-mail tech questions, only "chat" support which NEVER responds. Stay away from this product, and perhaps 2005 release will fix this issue. Problem is, I can't get anyone to let me know if this will be fixed, and they certainly don't advertise it. I guess it will be another gamble with 2005. I'd suggest sticking with 2003... Its still works on Mac 10.3

Summary: 10 Years of data transferred seamlessly!
Review: My first Quicken product was Quicken 94. Then I upgraded to Quicken 98 without any problems. In the last 10 years I've had all sorts of stock and price information stored in Quicken, some of it entered daily. I got a little nervous when I read the bad reviews listed on this site. But you should not be nervous! All my data transferred instantly and Quicken 2004 works beautifully without any glitches. In my years of owning Quicken products I've never had to call customer support so it doesn't bother me that they charge by the minute. Most of these other Quicken users probably have problems with their operating systems and other glitches. The only time quicken didn't work right was when I had bugs in the system software. Purchase a couple of good utility programs and everything in your computer will run fine! Don't be afraid to buy this product.

Summary: 10 years of data transferred seamlessly !
Review: I started with Quicken'94 then upgraded to quicken'98. I've never had to call technical support, even when I added Quicken 2004 to my Mac. All my Data transferred over without a glitch. I have many individual stocks, some with daily price entries, and all of it is there. Most of the bad reviews listed here are probably problems with their operating software or bugs in their systems. The only time quicken did not work for me was when my directories were screwed up. Running a good utilities program straightened out the whole computer and everything worked better. Don't be afraid to buy this software! It is top-notch!

Summary: This software makes me cry
Review: Oh. My. God. This has to be the most trying software experience in my entire computing life. I had an easier time setting up linux on a 386 in 1995. I've been trying to use Quicken 2004 for Mac for about 3 weeks now, and it has been nothing but a constant nightmare of bugs, crashes, data corruption, bad documentation, and the worst excuse for tech support imaginable. Once one problem is "solved" (I use that term loosely), another is revealed, more inexplicable and opaque than the last. The problems I had include, but are not limited to: crashes resulting in data corruption, requiring that I start over from scratch; an inability to modify my online banking settings once they are set; stark differences between the actual software and the documentation and online help documents; various problems getting quicken to communicate with my financial institution; the complete disappearance of random transactions from my registers during the export/import process; countless little bugs in the user interface. My attempts to work with support were enormously frustrating. Their online chat system would disconnect me after 40 minutes of painstakingly describing my symptoms. Amazingly, the support staff would frequently ask the same question more than once (this is *chat* for the love of pete, just *re-read* what I already typed!). And the rate of information would slow down to a trickle, sometimes taking 10 min to exchange the simplest yes-no questions... I assume that a single agent must have dozens of sessions going on at once, based on the level of engagement he she or it demonstrated in working on my problem. For what it is worth, I was able to badger them into providing *some* phone support sans the $1.95/minute (!!!) charge, but ultimately they were unable to directly address the problems. I was finally advised to do a full export and import, which of course introduced a whole new set of problems. Intuit has released a product that is simply not ready for public use, and they seem incapable or unwilling to take responsibility for it. Perhaps as (practically) the only game in town, they feel they can get away with shoveling this crap out the door.

Review: Works very well. Looks much better than 2002 (the last version I bought). iCal integration is very nice, but needs a little tweeking.
