Summary: Where is the rebate?
Review: Amazon.com lists a $5.00 rebate and provides a link. When the link is clicked no rebate coupon appears. I've emailed amazon.com and requested that the link be fixed. I will post any updates here.

Summary: Very useful and accurate; a good value
Review: Despite paying for the services of a professional accountant, every year I regularly pick up the low-end copy of Quicken's TurboTax program (...it's a steal). I use it for estimating my taxes, making sure I have all the correct supporting details and receipts in advance, and checking my accountant's math. The estimation and preparation benefits save me time and headache far beyond the cost of the software.

I really like how TurboTax integrates with Quicken (which I also use). If you have religiously entered your data into Quicken, you can directly import your numbers into TurboTax and save yourself considerable time. Back when I had simpler taxes, this was the way I prepared everything and it worked great. I especially like running through "what if" scenarios: what if we added another child? what if we sold that damn rental property? what if I donated more? ...you get the picture. There are state modules that plug-in to TurboTax so you can prepare the whole thing, but since we're now in WA (no state income tax), I can't comment on those.

This year's program was very easy to use and seemed to work well. All of my data was easily imported from Quicken and allowed me to find out about how much I'm going to have to pay. As we approach Apr 15, you should check the Intuit web site for updates and patches to this program just in case they discover any problems.

For the money, you can't go wrong. Where else can you...get such a useful program?

Summary: Quicken Turbo Tax
Review: First off, do not fall into the "trap" of avoiding purchase by doing this online at turbotax.com !!!

You WANT to be able to save your data on your computer, back it up on disk, and access the following year. Do some of you work out of your home? Did you recently buy a computer? Not only can you get a tax break on this home business purchase, but you can write off yearly depreciation. Unless you want to learn the IRS's depreciation schedule for all items, use this softtware, save your file and when the next tax season comes along all depreciation will automaticly be accounted for. Of course this is just one example of WHY you should invest $20 and buy the software.

Need more reasons? If you ever have an audit, you can easily print out detailed reports with this software, and present them to an auditor. If you ever have gotten audited, you know how long and hard it is to do these reports by hand and calculator.

Preparing your taxes are not as hard as it is made out to be, if you use this software. It asks you questions, you answer them, if you don't understand a question it will break it down into "Simple English" and even cite examples. The whole process takes about an hour.

Have been using this software for four years now, no mistakes, no problems, and easier to do every year. This software keeps on improving. No need to spend a lot on the "deluxe" version, this will do all you need it to do. (If you are filing business taxes then you should get the deluxe version, this will not help you much).

The best feeling is knowing that you did your taxes, and knowing that you did them at your pace, and ensured that everything was fine. When you hire an accoutant or go to H+R block, these companies have employees who do 40-60 returns a day! There chances of making a typo or mistake is much greater than yours.

Do yourself a favor, invest $20 on this, do your taxes early, and have a fun April.

Summary: I'll Try Again
Review: Gee, my first review seems to have gotten lost!

This is not an easy program to download and install. After you download the product and install it your desktop will be full of "Intuit" junk - I didn't like that.

Summary: Simple Tax Filing
Review: Great for simple tax filings...I have used this for the past 4 years and it works great. I have only my mortgage and a couple of donations each year, however it can go much more in depth. Would recomend to anyone.

Summary: TurboTax Delivers
Review: I have used Quicken's Turbo Tax Deluxe since 1996. The main difference between TurboTax and TurboTax Deluxe is the on-line reference books. Since I work in accounting, I prefer the extra detail to be handy. I have also purchased the State version annually, (MI)and have always ordered the disk version, because my computer was slow on downloads. Besides if you have a computer crash, or otherwise have to reinstall the software, it is handy to have the program on disk.

In the five years that I have used this program, I have found the Easy Step review system to reduce tax preparation time from hours to less than an hour. The most time consuming part of tax preparation is now collecting all the paperwork. I have also taught my teen-to-young adult age children how to do their own taxes, using this software. This tax preparation software can handle complex returns, even filing 1040X an amended return which I did once, several years ago. Mostly I use it for ordinary stuff like mortgage interest, real estate tax, 1040A deduction calculations and such. I heartily recommend it as an excellent value and easy-to-use.

Summary: Hidden limitation for marketing scheme
Review: I have used TurboTax for several years now, and have generally been very pleased with it. This year however I ran into a limitation which is not documented anywhere except for one article on Intuit's web site. No box can have a value more than 9,999,999. The online answer refers one to their much more expensive "ProSeries," which does not have the interview mode. Seems like a sleazy marketing scheme to sell some other overpriced product, and unfortunately it is tacked onto an otherwise good product.
