Summary: Amazing and worth the buy - Andre Da Costa
Review: I don't know why I didn't wait until this version of PPT had arrived. The visual effects in this version is just amazing compared to PPT 2000 this version is the most fantastic when it comes to visual effects and animations. With a new sleek graphical user interface and new templates your audience is sure to say "WOW". The templates are more effective when it comes to attracting attention, a more professional look and feel. So if you are one of those persons who like quality presentations with amazing effects turn to PPT 2002. This version includes smart tags and other Office XP features are also included to save time and effort.

Summary: Why?? StarOffice and OpenOffice.org are a contractors' dream
Review: I'm a contractor now (read: involuntarily unemployed but getting dribbles of work) and got tipped off to StarOffice and OpenOffice.org by a friend in the same spot who's been using StarOffice since day 1. Here's the deal.

- There's nothing important you need in PowerPoint that you don't have in StarOffice, the much cheaper MS Office-compatible Sun product, or OpenOffice.org, which is free, and open source.

- Create a presentation in SO or OOo, save it in MS Powerpoint format, send it to people running PowerPoint, and they won't be able to tell the difference.

- The 3D drawing and all features in fact in the Draw program are spectacular. There's connector lines like you get in Visio, and it's very easy to use.

Everyone should be buying StarOffice -- just go search for it on this site--or downloading OpenOffice.org for free. Don't be silly be buying Powerpoint.

Summary: Good, but StarOffice Impress is as good or better
Review: I've been using Ppt for a while but not anymore. Before I upgraded, that is when I was considering upgrading, I downloaded OpenOffice.org, the free version of StarOffice, and I was blown away. It opened all my PowerPoint files, and it has most of the same features. I use Impress all the time now, whether my clients need Impress or PowerPoint file formats. Does'em both.

Try Impress first, from the OpenOffice.org or StarOffice office suite.

Summary: Worth the buy, go for it!!!
Review: If there is at least one application out of the Microsoft Office XP family that's worth buying, it's this program. The features such as animations and effects 100% improved with great looking templates to use. The interface might look a bit surprising at first but, you will start creating awsome presentations in minutes. It's easy to use beacuse of the familiarity with Office and the New Task Pane provides quick access to certain necessary features, eg. If you want change your design template, you can do it right their from the task pane, no digging through menus and right clicking. You are also able to give presentation slides individual template designs to make your templates show more individualty. Their are tons of new features that have not been written about, you will find each every time you use the app. This is one application out of Office Microsoft has really concentrated on, I recommend it!

Summary: Nice, but worth the money? Get OpenOffice.org for free
Review: It's a lovely product; aside from a little too much automatic formatting, it does what I want it to. However, A) my employer bought it for me and B) I don't do much with it. And everything want to do with it, OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org) does for me. So I don't see the point. Openoffice opens PowerPoint files, does lots of slide type features, and unless you need to do really spectacular effects, you should be fine with the FREE OpenOffice suite.

You can try StarOffice too; it costs a little more than free but way less than PowerPoint.

OpenOffice has some pretty cool three D drawing effects included, plus all the standard slide effects and object effects for sucking in bullet points from the side, etc. You can print handouts, notes, all that stuff.

Try OpenOffice.org before you spend your car payment on PowerPoint!

Summary: Good Performance, High Price
Review: MS PowerPoint 2002 is a flexible and powerful presentation creator, and as such gets extremely high marks. There is virtually nothing I can't do in a presentation with PowerPoint. While I have no complaints in general about the program, I will say that it is sometimes cumbersome to use, especially in importing charts from Excel (though this is probably more of an Excel issue), and in creating unique formats.

The biggest drawbacks are: the instructions are relatively weak (I strongly recommend "Step by Step MS PowerPoint" if you are a new user to get you up and running); and the extraordinarily steep price tag. I bought it as a standalone product, and I think it is outrageously priced, considering you can get it plus Word, Excel and Outlook in the new 'MS Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers' (which, unfortunately, had not come out when I bought this) for less money than PowerPoint alone.

Overall, I still believe that my title sums it up: Good performance, high price.

Summary: Good product, ridiculous price, and there's no point.
Review: My last contract was with a subsidiary of Microsoft so they gave me MS Office XP, including PowerPoint. I didn't have to shell out the bucks for it. And it's a nice product. There's a little too much autoformatting but it's reasonably easy to say no, stop that, keep it normal. And Clippy doesn't come up.

But before that contract, and since then because I'm used to them, I've used StarOffice and OpenOffice.org. I've used them both and am really impressed, there's actually an alternative to Microsoft Office that's FREE. Well, OpenOffice is free and StarOffice which has a few other files so they charge you a bit for them. But they both open PowerPoint and Word and Excel files, and save back to those formats too, and 9 times out of 10 they do it perfectly.

I've done lots of presentations, including animation and linking to URLs, etc., in OpenOffice and it's really good. FREE really good software. So I don't see why anyone needs to get this product.

A few key things in OpenOffice.org -- different layouts, so you can look at it as a regular slide, handouts, outline, and in background and layer views too. I've done some great backgrounds since the drawing tools let you put really small gifs or vector graphics in the background once and it doesn't inflate your file size. Plus the file sizes with OpenOffice.org are spectacularly small. I opened up my PowerPoint presentation for a contract, opened it in OpenOffice.org, and the file size was suddenly half as big and it looked just the same as it did in PowerPoint.

So basically, here's the deal. I'm really happy doing all my work now in OpenOffice.org instead of PowerPoint, and while I'm not a power power power user I definitely put it through its paces.

Download OpenOffice.org before you get PowerPoint, or get StarOffice if you feel like you should pay for your software. PowerPoint ain't your only option.

Summary: Awesome. great new features
Review: Powerpoint 2002 really has a lot more and it is much more friendly than the earlier versions. Here's a list of the new features
-A task pane where everything is done instead of dialog boxes. The task pane is a sidebar
-The task pane has
- a clipboard with multiple objects possible
- slide design and layout
- clip art
- help
- templates
- custom animation that allows entrance, emphasis, exit, and motion path effects that give you many more possible for animation

Summary: Long Awaited Enhancements
Review: Powerpoint finally has password protection for modifying and opening presentations. Another cool feature is that you can play your slide in any view to see how it will play out without having to go into slide show mode. Better animation control, built in image compression and enhanced slide show performance(Not sure how effective this is yet), Multiple design templates in one presentation, It's suppose to have a file recovery tool but have not been able to test this yet, Still no Autorun CD feature but definately worth the upgrade.

Summary: Good... but then not..
Review: This program is very good for what it does. It has to be one of the better Microsoft products. But considering the FREE or cheaper products available for the same use. It seems like its not worth it. And really its not, but if you buy it in the suite of products (Office XP Pro) its more worth the money. And you'll find that its a common requirement in Schools and knowledge that is more and more being required.

In this case i was lucky and got it at a KILLER discount (Free from a friend who couldnt use it) but it is a good solid program.
