Summary: Best Hong Kong drama ever..
Review: Chow Yun Fat is one hell of an actor and that can't be any more evident than in this 1986 Hong Kong classic, A Better Tomorrow. This is probably John Woo's best movie and definately one of the best Hong Kong action thrillers of all time. John Woo is a director that certainly deserves his reputation and Chow Yun Fat is a prolific and talented star. Jet Li, Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan have nothing on Chow Yun Fat. It's foreign actors like him that are fully deserving of all the overseas exposure they get.

Here's to hoping that he makes more great movies.

Summary: John Woo delivers the goods.
Review: Chow Yun Fat- Hong Kong Classic..John Woo delivering some of his best work. Must see for those who loved Chow Yun Fat and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. This is "CLASSIC" John Woo right here and classic Chow Yun Fat back in the making. For those who think that Chow Yun Fat started acting in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, you need to step back and take a look at classics like Hard Boiled, The Killer, A Better Tommorrow I, II, Hong Kong 1941 and an impressive list of movies to his resume. Chow has been performing for years and he's definately one of China's premiere actors. This is one movie you definately don't want to miss him in.

Summary: Best movie made ever
Review: This has got to be my favorite movie of al time. Nothing I've seen before compares to it. The action, the drama, the story, and the characters. It has everything. You could be a fan of any genre, watch this movie, and not be dissapointed. All aspects of this movie are done so well that I don't know how anyone has given this movie less than five stars.

The story revolves around three main characters. There is Mark(Chow Yun Fat), Sung Tse Ho(Ti Lung), and Kit(Leslie Chung). Mark and Ho are gangsters and Kit is Ho's brother training to be a cop. Ho decices to retire after one last job. He is betrayed during the last job and goes to jail. Mark then seeks revenge and while seeking it, he becomes crippled. Kit on the other hand is devestated by his brother's actions and even more so because another gangster kills their dad while trying take him as hostage so Ho doesn't blab. Obviously, the two brothers go their seperate ways and Mark soon becomes a lackey.

I recommend this movie to anyone. It has good everything and you won't be dissapointed. It was well worth the money.

Summary: excellent woo-fat vechile
Review: Ok, this is the film that made stars out of Woo and Fat in Hong Kong and also broke barriers. two mobster pals (Lung and Fat) are enjoy the life, but it all ends when Lung is double crossed when he decides to leave "the life", and he is sent to prison and his brother blames him for his fahers death. Fat's character becomes a limping janitor getting tips from the mobsters he once befriended. Lung is soon released from prison and reunites with Fat and eventully his brother to take out the mob. The action is great, the storyline is powerful but at times you will be a little bored by some of the dramatics, but this is a great film. The DVD for an old movies and a HK flick is also great, I had no problems with the dubbing.

Summary: must see..
Review: Chow Yun Fat, Leslie Cheung, Lung Ti, and etc. made this movie great and memorable. sure, there may not be many shootouts like the killer or Hard-Boiled, but this movies got everything. Loyalty, romance, hope, btrayal, code of a tru gangsta. This movie started it all.

if you just wanted to see action, this movie is ahnananaa...... but if watch for everything...this movie is as good as scarface, goodfellas, etc.

"kid, dont point gun at my head, if you got the guts why dont you just shoot me??"

Summary: THERE IS NO HONOR AMONG THIEVES
Review: Less explosive than later Woo epics like "The Killer" and "Hard Boiled," "A Better Tomorrow" is still a winner thanks to fine all-around performances from a quality cast and the underlying questions of honor, loyalty, and family that keep the bloody action scenes from being merely gratuitous. The first major effort from director Woo and ace actor Chow Yun Fat, "A Better Tomorrow" has everything fans of Hong Kong thrillers have come to expect from Woo, albeit on a somewhat smaller scale. A tempestuous mix of gangster politics, love & hate, pathos, guns & flying bullets, "A Better Tomorrow" is so electrifying it will give your VCR a meltdown.

Summary: Good Action Movie
Review: First of all I'm 14 not 12 like it says above this review. This is a great John Woo movie and as always in a great action movie there are excellently choregraphed action scenes. The only downside is I think they could of enjected alittle more gunfights hence 4 stars instead of 5. I mean compare this to The Killer or Hard Boiled. Both those movies had tones of action, while this one does not. Sure the scene at the end and the one in the restraunt were good but that is the only two that resemble any of the hardcore action that The Killer and Hard Boiled are great for. If you are REALLY looking for tones of action watch The Killer or Hard Boiled. And if you already own those movies THEN buy this one. And if you are new to Hong Kong action movies then you should check out the The Killer (its in my opinions is Woo's best work.)
Anyway happy viewing!

Summary: A Better Version Available.
Review: I bought this when it first came out. Up till then, it was only available as A: Horrible Boot-leg or B: Horribly Translated English-Dubbed VHS. So I bought thinking I hit the motherlode. It did have a pretty decent transfer & was letterboxed in it's 1.85:1 ratio instead of it's usual boot-leg 1.77:1. However, the first thing I noticed was that all the original score had been replaced! I don't know if this was corrected later or what, but I was very disappointed. Not only was the original good music gone, but it was replaced with sound-alike versions of the score from "The Terminator" and "Forrest Gump." AHHHH, the agony. Anyway, it was just re-released not too long ago by a different company, and though I haven't picked it up, I've heard it's there in all it's glory. Trust me, stay away from this version.

Summary: A Better Tomorrow, a great movie!!!!!!!
Review: This has to be one of the greatest, if not the best Chow Yun Fat has ever been in, and he's not even the main character! Chow Yun Fat has a way of putting so much feeling into his movies, and the fact that John Woo is directing, makes it even better. This movie has a list of increadible characters, including Leslie Cheung(A Chinese Ghost story). I'm telling you, if you like any of Chow Yun's movies, and you don't own "A Better Tomorrow", you're missing out on a great movie.
