Review: I liked Tom Cruise as an actor in 'Top Gun' and 'Cocktail' but this film made me respect him. It is about 2 Marines who are suspected of murdering another tell tale Marine. However, the plot is thicker than that. You'll find military intrigue, ego and comeuppance. Positive points: Fantastic cast of Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, Kevin Bacon, Kevin Pollak, and Kiefer Sutherland. The script was fantastic and the camera shots were point perfect.
- Furthermore, I was glad that Tom Cruise's character and Demi Moore's character were antagonistic towards each other and not lovey - dovey. This is purely about crime in the military. Negative points: I wish it was longer. It was brilliant.

Review: Just finished the movie about an hour and a half ago, and loved it. It was one of the best movies I've ever seen, and I'm not usually a fan of this type of genre. I reccommend this movie to
anyone, and I'll definitely be buying the DVD. Peace... "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!"

Review: Those are the words of my 8th grade history teacher and they fit this movie. This movie would have been rivetting if Marines were all skinheaded morons and all officers were arrogant and vicious. Sadly for Sorkin (whose hatred of reality is apparent every time he picks up a pen) and Reiner (I agree with Archie, he is a meathead) Marines aren't like that. For someone who has served, this movie was just sad. I didn't find enough legitimate reality in this movie to make me angry. I just sat and sighed. Except, of course, for the colonel, with whom I heartily agreed at pretty much every turn. I won't bother with descriptions of things that I saw or "how it really is". This movie is psychological drama for psych majors and bleary-eyed pacifist ninnies. If you like America or enjoyed the Marine Corps, this movie is not for you.

Summary: COURT ROOM DRAMA/ENGROSSING TRANSFER!
Review: "A Few Good Men" pits a clean cut defense attorney (Tom Cruise) against a disreputable General (Jack Nicholson)in order to get to the bottom of a murder that has taken place on a military base. Demi Moore and Kevin Bacon co-star.
Columbia's original DVD release of "A Few Good Men" was a near pristine effort with bold, rich colors, exceptional contrast and shadow delineation, smooth deep black levels and an amazing lack of edge enhancement and pixelization. This DVD release is a carbon copy of that transfer.
EXCEPTIONS: The original DVD contained nearly 60 chapter stops, an ample selection by any standard. On this DVD we get less than 30 chapter stops, presumably so that the extra added features could be squeezed onto the same side of the disc. Extras included several featurettes, theatrical trailers, audio commentaries and a few throw away items. All in all this is a nicely packaged DVD with nothing really to complain about. If any complaint can be lodged its this - first, that Columbia should give us a special edition first and forgo the bare bones treatment of their initial releases and definitely ditch plans for a remastered Superbit version. The studio's theory behind multiple copies is merely a money-making venue. Second, upon seeing such a sterling presentation one pines after the fact that Columbia's transfer quality of late does not come close in comparison to its earlier efforts, like "A Few Good Men".
BOTTOM LINE: THIS ONE'S A KEEPER - IF YOU CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH!

Review: The U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay is the oldest overseas U.S. base. In the span of fifty years it endured and survived hard-liner Marxist, Fidel Castros revolution, his rise to power, and the fact Castro declared the Cuban territory off limits to U.S servicemen. Under Castro mass jailings and executions of the cuban people took place and during this time may Cubans sought refuge at the base. It was not possible to offer refuge and both the U.S. Marines and Cuban militiamen began patrolling opposite sides of the base's 17.4 mile fenceline, 24 hours a day. Colonel Jessup played by Jack Nicholson clarifies with Tom Cruise who plays Kaffee the JAG lawyer the "truth". Jessup in a very confrontational argument with Kaffee tauts a tale of an unsafe world, a world where the enemy points a gun back a shoot, a world whose peace and comfort is defend by men like himself, men who are willing to risk their lives to defend the beliefs, and though Kaffee may find him grotesque, Jessup would preferred that Kaffee just say thank-you. Kaffee manipulates Jessup in to think there is circumstantial evidence suggesting a code red. Kaffee believe Jessup wants to tell the court what happen. In a high risk manuever which could have cost him his career Kaffee demands, "I want the truth." Jessup tells him, he can't handle the truth. Kaffee borders on contempt as he forced Jessup to admit he order the code red: no food, forced beatings, and isolation. The movie ends with a powerful realization that the it was their job to protect Private First Class named William Santiago.

Summary: Accurate Portrayal of a Fanatic Weasel
Review: Colonel Jessup's appraisal of LT Kendrick as a "weasel" was on the mark, and Kiefer Sutherland played the roled perfectly -- the young Marine fanatic, dedicated only to the cause. Note how dismissive he was with the Navy officers: "When we need to go somewhere to fight, you boys give us a ride." See how he strode, marched down the exact center of the barracks hallway when escorting the group to PVT Santiago's room, military all the way. I met several like him during my time in the armed forces, and Sutherland had their type pegged exactly (except, perhaps, for the piercings in his earlobes visible in close-ups while he was on the witness stand... but hey, nobody's perfect). And, I never never ever saw any Naval officers like Demi Moore.

Summary: Overwrought, predictable, but decent
Review: Does anyone ever tire of Tom Cruise's swagger? Well, here it is again. This time he's a JAG officer who has the perfect hair and the civilian clothes -- sound like "Top Gun"? He's our break the rules and get acclaim for doing so hero! God, don't we just love him! I want to be just like Tom Cruise. The plot and script are predictable. There's lots of intense shouting and name calling perfectly orchestrated to raise the blood pressure, but this has been done before and it has been done better. Nicholson is actually better than I thought he would be. Some of the other supporting performances were good too. But the script lacks originality and falls back on some pretty standard devices. If you are looking for either a good court-room drama or a good military drama, you could find far better movies on both counts. "A Soldier's Story" and "Twelve Angry Men" are two that come to mind.

Summary: Great Performances
Review: If you like "LA Law", "Law & Order" or "The Practice", you will almost certainly like this movie. The setting is mostly the same (courtroom drama) but there is more outside activity (perhaps a little "CSI" thrown into the mix). The performances of Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Kevin Pollack, Keifer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon are outstanding. Demi Moore, J.T. Walsh and Wolfgang Bodison are more restrained, mostly by the script. There are many one-liners that you will remember and repeat years later -- they are as riveting as bullets from a 50-caliber gun. The cinematography, editing and sound are excellent. The transfer to DVD is also excellent. Another fine film from Rob Reiner. Highly recommended.
