Summary: The Worst One I've Seen Yet!
Review: We got this for our daughter's 2nd birthday, as she really enjoys the other DVDs in the Baby Einstein line. She likes this one too, but it is really a departure from the other BE DVDs we've seen. First of all, there is the cheesy original song "I Know My Shapes"...they should have just stuck to the classical music entirely. (Isn't that one of the ideas the company was founded on to begin with? But that was BD, BEFORE DISNEY. Now, I have nothing against Disney, but please don't fix what's not broken!!) Then, there's the computer animation of the crayons and the clown. A clown puppet (like the other characters in this line of videos) would have been more endearing. And the crayons just don't belong! If I had seen this before buying I would have chosen another title. If you're still looking for a new BE DVD, I would recommend Baby Van Gogh, which really helped our daughter learn all of her colors well before the age of 2, or Numbers Nursery (even though it only goes up to 5).

Summary: Baby's Favorite Video
Review: When our son was born 10 months ago, my wife picked up the Baby's Newton, Einstein, Mozart and Shakespeare. Newton was his hands-down favorite almost from the start. He loves the clown; he loves the lion. Hard to say how he feels about the crayons, but he pays rapt attention throughout the entire video. He's a little young for some of the others, so it's not fair to compare them all evenly. But there's no question that this one's been his favorite. He still lights up when it comes on. Even if he just hears the first few licks of the music.
I came here looking to buy a replacement of this video, because the original has been played so many times that it's wearing out a bit. I was quite surprised to read all the negative reviews.
My advice to parents is this: Don't let the negative reviews sway you. This is easily as good as any of the other Baby Einstein videos, and better than some.

Summary: Toddlers love it even if parents don't
Review: In looking at some previous reviews it looks like the DVD received 5 stars when people went by their children's reaction. When people reviewed it from their perspective the rating was lower. I concur that this is our son's favorite while I like some of the older versions in the series better. Since these productions are not aimed at adults I give it 5 stars.
Our son talks about or laughs at nearly every scene in this video. While there are highlights in all of the other Einstein videos none so fully engage him as this one. It's not for children under 12 months and our son didn't really take to it until around 18 months but now he can't get enough.
Parents, target this one for 1 1/2 - 3 year olds and don't worry if you don't like it as much as Baby Mozart.

Summary: I wasn't sure, but my son LOVES this video!!
Review: I had to add our review when I saw some of the bad ones written here. We own all the other videos in this series (my son started with these with Baby Mozart at 4 months old) and several of the books and flash card sets. I didn't get Baby Newton after reading the bad reviews, but my best friend got it for her son. My son and I watched it together, and I wasn't happy at first with the changes (added animation and a non-classical song) being a long-time fan of the original series. In stark contrast, my son was hooked. He talked about it for two weeks (he's 2 1/2) until I bought it. Now, he not only knows his shapes, but sings the clown's song when he plays with his blocks and points out shapes everywhere we go! I love that this series made classical music his favorite music, and how much these videos have helped me to teach him. This series could not have a bigger fan than me unless, of course, you count my son! Maybe you can't please all the people all the time, but even with the changes Disney has made, my son still loves this video, has learned from it, and isn't it really the child's opinion that counts?

By the way, I have gotten over the changes and look forward to seeing new videos from this series.

Summary: Disappointing experiment by the BE Folks!
Review: Forget the plush puppets, enticing visuals, and enchanting classical music of the other Baby Einstein videos. This one does not follow the BE formula. Instead, it is an animated presentation with an original song that is played repeatedly, assuring the viewer that the (albeit untalented) singer "knows his shapes." Computer generated crayons draw a clown out of shapes, and he becomes a more dimensional computer graphic.

What's the problem? I noticed that my son did not enjoy this show as much as the others. He prefers the more engaging BE vidoes with puppets, changing scenes, and classical music. (E.g., Baby Galileo). I purposely buy BE videos because they are NOT flatly animated with uninteresting music. Other than the fact that baby didn't care for the video, I found the visuals uninteresting and the song about shapes very annoying.

I recommend Baby Shakespeare or Baby Van Gogh instead of this one & hope that the BE people learn from this mistake.

Summary: THE BEST IN THE BABY EINSTEIN SERIES!!!
Review: I can't believe this DVD only has 3 stars! This DVD is my daughter's absolute favorite in all the Baby Einstein series & the Sesame Street ones she has. She LOVES the animated clown and laughs when he rings the triangle or uses the circle as a hula hoop. She first saw this DVD at 9 months and it has continued to be her favorite.

I read another review that said "bring back the toys." Well, since seeing this DVD, the toys bore her and she's no longer interested in Baby Mozart, Bach or Beethoven. She wants to learn!

Between the fun animated clown and crayons, the pupets and the catchy music, I think this is the best DVD Baby Einstein has made! "I know my shapes, Oh yes, I do..."

Summary: My daughter LOVES it!!!!
Review: Wow .... I read some of the other comments and we have some tough parents out there. My 11 month old daughter loves the shapes dvd and has since about 7 months old. She dances to the music especially the shapes song and I'm glad it repeats because it seems to be her favorite part. I also find it very easy to sing a long, even though its mostly talking, and my daughter gets a big kick out of it.
Of course she can't tell me yet why she likes this one best out of all the Baby Einstein DVD's but I think it is the computer animation that's always moving around ... it keeps her captivated.
Some of the parents out there should remember that these video's are for our childrens pleasure and learning experience and not ours.

Summary: The WORST Baby Einstein I've Seen
Review: It's horrible! There is WAY too much computer animation. Plus, repeating an entire segment/song is not a good idea for young children -- that's boring. I thought we needed every Baby Einstein DVD. But I was wrong. My daughter would much rather watch some of her other Baby Einsteins than this one. Don't waste your money!

Summary: Unwatchable
Review: I believe criticism should be accompanied by at least one suggestion for improvement. The criticism comes first. Disney has provided an excellent example of what NOT to do when you buy a concept. The hand of Disney in this offering has left nothing buy dirty fingerprints on the video screen. Unappealing clowny images, really boring conceptions, and downright insultingly lousy music mar this show from beginning to end. They have totally ignored the tone and feeling which has made Baby Einstein so special, in favor of glitzy production, which completely misses the mark. No Disney, louder and flashier is not necesarily better. We literally cannot get through this video, though we have tried a few times. It is the only one of the series that our child doesn't seem to enjoy. Okay, a suggestion.

Shapes are a valid subject for the Baby Einstein series. The concept has been wasted here. How about a remake of a shapes video for this series? This time perhaps Disney will back away, and allow Julie Clark to create it in the tradition of her other excellent shows.

Summary: Magical DVD staring the cutest clown ever...
Review: I usually don't write online reviews...but after reading some of the reviews that were criticizing the "I know my shapes" animation, I had to take the time and share with you my own experience with this DVD...it's Magical...This DVD has succeeded to captivate my 5 month baby boy's attention. At first we thought he only liked the colorful clown and the "I know my shapes" song but we quickly discovered that this DVD captivated my son's mind for the entire length of the DVD...in fact he has been able to watch it TWICE IN A ROW without taking his eyes of the screen...this is very powerful, he is ONLY 7 months and VERY active, he wants to touch and see everything but when Baby Newton is on nothing else disturb him away. To captivate is the first step towards educate so kudos' to the Baby Einstein Company for having discovered how babies mind work and how to catch their attention. None of the other DVD, CD, games, toys including other Baby Einstein DVD were able to captivate Adam's attention. As soon as the DVD starts and Adam's recognizes the theme song from Baby Einstein series a big smile comes up and he starts taping his feet and hands in joy...well to us (his parents) this is magical!! A huge Thank you the Baby Einstein Company!!!
