Rating: Summary: A GOOD CLASSiC HORROR FILM!!! Review: Though it was a little boring, and took a while to get into, it was an okay classic horror film, that I enjoyed for a few laughs, and a few chills. It was originally made to be watched with 3-D glasses, but it is okay without them. Check it out, if you wish. ENJOY!!!
Rating: Summary: One Of The Best Movies Ive Seen. Review: This Movie Was Great! I Love The Ghosts, Expecially The One In The Kitchen, If You Havent Seen This Movie I Greatly Reccomend You To Buy It, It Actually Scared Me In Some Parts!
Rating: Summary: Creepy Castle Classic! Review: I first heard of William Castle when I bought the movie "House on Haunted Hill", which quickly became one of my favorite "ghost shows". I watched the re-make of this film before I had a chance to see the original, and was intrigued. When my birthday came about, and I found this movie, I had no excuse. What a thrill! I was unfortunate enough to have missed out on the 3-D craze of the 50's, but thanks to Columbia/Tristar, Illusion-O is back with a vengance! The movie makes great use of deep, haunting sound and the ghostly visuals to keep it creepy. Now, don't get me wrong, mostly this is Mayberry horror, but there are a few scenes that honestly got me to jump! Like the others, I lament not having more "ghost-viewers" to share with my friends, but even without the viewers, this Castle show is definately worth seeing. So make sure you keep your viewers close, and after the movie, give your dark house a good look-through with them to be sure none of the strange specters followed YOU home......
Rating: Summary: The orginal. Review: As the case with many other old horror films most people see the new one and think the old one's bad too, well I can say this film is far better then it's re make, it has some good jumps, and the classic message of becareful what you wish for.
Rating: Summary: WILLIAM CASTLE DID IT AGAIN! Review: You may recall his 1958 horror thriller "house on haunted hill". Here is another treat for those who loves his style for ghost stories. William Castle I guess just has a knack for directing ghost movies. Most all of his movies were superb, not one boring. The film deals with a family living in an old ramshackle mansion haunted by 13 ghosts. But here's the mystery, One of the ghosts isn't real. And whoever that person is ,that's trying to get the family out of the house, is the murderur of the mansion's owner. A great movie with a cast worth watching. Enjoy this movie, And remember to buy more of Castle's films, They're all worth watching!
Rating: Summary: Good clean fun Review: Nothing like the remake - good clean fun with 3d glasses.
Strange to see the guy from Adam-12 as a shifty lawyer.
Funny to see the wicked witch from Wizard of Oz play the spooky housekeeper.
Well written and I'm sure the special effects were good for their time.
Sets are well made.
My daughter loved it! - great scary movie for pre-teens.
Rating: Summary: Old-Fashioned B-Flick Scary Stuff Review: I was fortunate to be just old enough to see this film in the theater during its original release. This was a golden age of cinema when admission was 25 cents and an all-day lollipop was five cents, and the theater industry was employing all sorts of gimmics to draw patrons away from TV. (A particularly famous gimmic was stationing registered nurses at showings of "Psycho," to be ready for any heart attacks the movie caused.) And, yes, "13 Ghosts" had a gimmic, the little paper-and-cellophone tinted glasses one wore during haunted portions of the film. If you wanted to see the ghost, you used the red side -- if not, the blue side. At the end of the movie was a trailer hinting that you should try using the viewer that night, after you got home, in a dark room... there was no telling what sort of ghost you might see. That caused all the children to want to keep their little viewers, and I amusingly remember the anxious theater manager standing at the door as we crowded out, flailing around as he tried to grab as many of the viewers back from the kids as he could (I hid mine in my shirt, but saw no ghost that night).
"13 Ghosts" is a fun-scary film -- and it features one of the most stunning opening-credit sequences in all of cinema. Looking closely, it's easy to see how it was done... so simple, yet so effective. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Fun film, NOT fun without the viewer Review: Taking into consideration that the film is a classic, what i was rather angry about was the absence of the 'viewer' that was supposed to be included with the dvd. I am inclined to return the dvd to Amazon.com, and suggest those who may want to purchase this dvd to not do so for the reason that i did not get what i paid for.
Rating: Summary: Just to second what everyone else is commenting on... Review: ...Yes the cheapskates have stopped putting the 3-D glasses inside the product, in spite of the fact that the packaging stlii claims that they're included, and in spite of the fact that one entire side of the disc is rendered useless without them. So don't bother re-ordering multiple copies in the hope that one will turn up; If you get an early pressing, yeah, but it really isn't very likely. A pair of 3-D shades retails for around 40 cents (if you can find just one pair for sale), so it isn't a great financial burden to get them, but the aggravation is considerable, not to mention the feeling that the only reason you are having to go through said aggravation in the first place is due to the mendacity of Columbia/TriStar Home Video. I would've kicked my rating for the disc up a star if the manufacturers had only kept their word.
As for the movie itself, it's a wonderfully entertaining idiot's horror movie, as good (or "good", if you know what I mean) as HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, and better than THE TINGLER. William Castle never made a good movie, but he never made a boring one either, and for goofy period thrills, you can't beat his overwought exploitation pics. How can you not love a movie which contains an average American family with two young kids named Buck and Medea?
Rating: Summary: Illusion-O Viewers Missing Review: Product is advertised as having the viewers included. Too bad that the viewers are only an illusion. Don't be like me and order this DVD solely for the Illusion-O effect. The other problem with this DVD is that the "A" side is supposed to be the Illusion-O presented side with the "B" side being the non-Illusion-O side. Wrong! It's flip-flopped. Must have been burned wrong at the company.
