Summary: How funny can a movie be??
Review: "A Blast from the Past" is one of those films that start with a funny idea and become even crazier every minute. Although there are no big surprises, it keeps you watching very closely so you won't miss any of the jokes - which are brilliant! Adam's (Brendan Frazer) almost unbelievable innocence colliding with the vices of the "upper world" is captivating. Also, every single character is very well played and completely integrated in the story. If you want to have a good laugh, watch this film!

Summary: Good geewilicker's movie
Review: "Blast from the Past" is one of my hands-down favorite movies. It's charming, cute, sweet, and genuinely funny. Brendan Frasier and Alicia Silverstone are (surprisingly enough) perfectly matched as Adam and Eve (the movie contains only one joke about their names).

Basically, Adam has spent his entire life in a very elaborate bomb shelter. His parents had just sealed themselves in their bomb shelter after a "news scare," and when a plane crashed on top of the shelter, they assumed that a nuclear war had finally been launched. The doors wouldn't unlock for 35 years (because that's when the radiation would be done - or at least that's what Christopher Walken said). Fast forward 35 years, the doors unlock, and Adam gets the chance to see the world outside. When he gets lost and can't find his way back to the bomb shelter, he fortunately stumbles across Eve, who helps him adjust to life in the 90s, as well as purchase supplies to take back to his parents.

The DVD release is pretty minimal, unfortunately. There is a movie trailer and a pretty lame game called the Love-Meter or something similar. Pretty skimpy, although the visuals are quite nice. It's a great movie, although if you are buying the DVD version, buy it for the movie and not for any extras, because there aren't any. It does contain both a widescreen and fullscreen version, however, and the disc is NOT two-sided.

Summary: Warm and Fuzzy...
Review: ...O.k., I know, that's a really stupid title, but I can't think of any other way to explain how this movie makes me feel. I am "slightly older" than the main characters, but really appreciate their on screen warmth. I love this movie because it makes me laugh without vulgarity and it's sexy without a hint of nudity or even suggested intimacy. I guess it's a Doris Day and Rock Hudson type of comedy. I bought the DVD to relive the "warm and fuzzy" feeling whenever I want!

Summary: Blast from the Past
Review: A fine, entertaining, funny, cute movie. All the characters are great. Alicia Silverstone's timely facial expressions are terrific to watch. There's a lot going on in this movie... lots of subtleties and hidden messages, which makes it even more fun... you see something new every time you watch it. One of the neatest movies I've seen in many years.

Review: Adam has spent his entire life in a fallout shelter because his eccentric father believes the world has been blown up.At the age of 30 Adam finally ventures out into the world and it is hilarious!!

Summary: Funny, Sexy and Sweet
Review: Adam is a human time capsule. Raise him in an isolated 60's world (35 years in a fall out shelter) then send him out into the cynical 90s and you have an interesting culture clash. The sweet innocence with which Adam views the world is wonderfully contrasted by Alicia Silverstones cynical 90s woman, and both are balanced with Dave Foley's terrific Jiminy Cricket imitation with a twist. Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek are a hoot with their roles as Adam's parents! The very best parts of the entire film are the moments of discovery, beginning with the first time 35 year old Adam sees the sky, this beautiful blue and white covering we all take for granted. The simple excitement and delight is infectious. Leaving the theatre, I looked up at the sky with new appreciation. This same delight is found whenever he encounters a new experience, from seeing a child, to seeing the ocean.

With all this there is the overwhelming assurance that we are watching an actor who is still growing and turning in better and better performances each time he steps before a camera. I hope he has a cabinet already for the little golden statues he will be collecting over the coming years!

WELL worth the time to watch (over and over)

Summary: Extremely funny!
Review: Adam was cocooned in a bomb shelter since his birth. His family had been trapped in there since the 1960s. His parents taught him everything they could, from languages to dancing. Although Adam had become quite knowlegeable but he was still naive in a way without any exposure to the real world. When he had a chance to go out in the world with a grocery list from his mother, he created so many hilarious situations. Then when Adam met Eve, she helped him out with his very long shopping list. She believed Adam to be from Alaska and yet when she found him to be so knowledgeable and even know how to dance so well, she began to doubt that. Adam did not even know how to explain that he was from underground (He lived in a bomb shelter, remember?) I have found myself laughing out loud throughout the show.

If you are a romantic comedy fan, you gotta watch this!

Summary: Great Fun!
Review: Alicia Silverstone is NOT a terrible actress. Dave Foley is one of the funniest people I have ever seen ("he's like from X-files or something"), and Brendan Fraser pulls off another awesome surprise for us all. There aren't many actors these days that have the depth (yes, depth) that this young man has. Compare George of the Jungle to his Clayton character in Gods and Monsters. Or Adam Webber to his character in "Twighlight of the Golds" I actually did a little research on him after seeing several of his films...he is educated, talented, bright, certainly can dance (ballet, jazz, swing, etc), and has both comedic and dramatic qualities that you just can't find often anymore. He certainly will never be stereocast. This film does exactly what it is supposed to do--Blast you back to the Past for little rest and relaxation. Thank you all for the refreshing rest!!!! I'm buying it before the price even falls, I enjoyed it that much.

Summary: Refreshing, funny
Review: Always like a film that's a little different, and this one surely was. Not only were the youngsters good (Brendan, Alicia) but Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek as the old folks were hysterical. Thumbs up from here...

Summary: Very funny movie
Review: and I have to disagree with the reviewer who said that the foul language wasn't necessary. It provided a stark cultural contrast between Adam, who didn't talk that way, and most of the modern people who did. We also got to see Adam's reaction to it. Unlike most movies that use foul language, the use of such language in this film was used very effectively to allow Adam to stand out from everyone else, and to tell us something about his character. It was used for characterization, and not gratuitously. Overall, it was very funny-which is always a good thing- and as usual, Brenden Fraser is hot!
