Summary: Five episodes of Bonanza, valuable as historical record
Review: Bonanza is the famous television westernseries, set in the vicinity of Virginia City, Nevada, during the years of the Civil War, soon after the discovery of the fabulous Comstock Silver Lode. Bonanza is the saga of the Cartwrights, a prosperous family of ranchers. The stories relate their struggles for justice amidst violenc and lawlessness as they attempt to maintain and operate their timberland ranch, known as the Ponderosa Ranch. Many of these classics were produced in the early years of filmmaking. This means that primitive audio recording technique will be more noticeable in the DVD format, so will glitches in picture. These movies ("Desert Justice", "Badge Without Honor", "The Last Viking", "The Blood Line", "Silent Thunder") have been rescued from the film vaults in most cases and have not been restored. A pity is the missing well-known "Bonanza"-tune. Now all the episodes starts with a nasty kind of music. Nice to see all the famous characters back on the screen.

Summary: Valuable Collection BUT......
Review: I bought the Bonanza 5PAC and I believe it's a decent collection, especially for Bonanza "die hard fans"..
BUT...
The sound and picture are not of very good quality..A great dissapointment is the absence of the classical Bonanza soundtrack....
They could have put more than just 1 episode per disk..I hope they will do that in future collections....
A major disadvantage in my opinion is the absence of subtitles of any language..This is very importand especially for shoppers outside US like me...
Finally i think that the packet would be more attractive in a lower price..

Summary: A good western collection.
Review: I don't really have this dvd, but I've seen all five episodes. Two of them, Desert Justice and Badge Without Honor, are boring. But I like the other three. Silent Thunder is about Little Joe teaching a deaf girl that also can't understand anything to talk in sign language. But he needs the help of the girl's dad. The Last Viking includes Hoss's uncle, and The Blood Line is a very emotional episode about Ben killing a boy's dad in self defense and having to bring the boy back to normal. So in my opinion, for four stars, you might wanna take a look at this dvd.

Summary: Great TV Show - Bad Transfer
Review: I quality of this set of DVD's is terrible. Sound moves from garbled to nonexistent. They removed the original theme music and the video is washed out.

Summary: Piece of [garbage]
Review: This DVD set is exactly the kind of [garbage] that scared a lot of Bonanza fans away. Inferior quality of sound and picture that makes you wonder why they even cared to release the set at all.
Also lacking is the original Bonanza theme. You'll get a similar but inferior tune instead!

It looks like the umpth grade illegal VHS copy tape transferred directly to DVD without restoring the sound or picture.

If you want a nice set leave this junk alone and buy yourself "The Best Of Bonanza, Vol. One" released by Artisan. It's available on this site and it includes the original Bonanza theme.

To add to that I advise you to go through all of the other possible DVD sets instead because this one is the worst of the lot. Although the same 31 episodes have been released again and again mostly without the original theme music there are several companies who transferred these episodes to DVD with improved sound and picture quality. Just leave all of the MADACY [garbage] alone, unless you want to throw them into your fireplace.

Summary: Only one episode per disk?
Review: Why have only 5 episodes on 5 disks?I would have thought at least 2 or even 3 episodes would have been fair value for money. If the TV shoe "Friends" can put 8 half hour episodes on a disk, then shows like Bonanza should be able to do better than a pitiful one episode per disk.
