Rating: Summary: Wonderful textbook Review: I have used this book as a text book for my photography class for the last seven years. It's simply the best I've found. Franz C. Nenzel Photo Instructor Galena High School Reno, NV.
Rating: Summary: Ground Floor Review: I spent some time at a local bookstore looking for a good book for my sister-in-law who had just picked up the hobby of photography. Since I spent time making a living from photography, I was looking for a well-illustrated book that covered all the basics that beginners would need. Plus more advanced subjects as well. Easily readable, thorough and well organized. Plenty of actual photos that provide clarity to the subject matter. None of the other books were as good. At the checkout I was surprised at the price. A little steep for a gift, but I still bought it. The book is that good. If I were to write a book on photography, this is the book that I'd write.

Rating: Summary: An excellent learning tool! Review: I'm currently enrolled in a level 1 photography class and this book has been paramount in my learning/understanding of the basics. It has filled the sometimes large gaps left by my instructor and his style of teaching. I would recommend this reference without a second thought for those of you looking to learn the basics, and then some! It's full of photos that explain what words cannot at times, and better yet - it's written in plain English!
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE. Review: If you can only buy one book on photography this is more than likely all you will ever need.
Rating: Summary: A Basic link to all aspects of photography Review: If you really really can only buy one book, get this. Somehow it cost only US$30 here in Singapore. There's no better book on general photography than this for any amount of money. The book generalised photography and yet does not skimp on any topics, there's just enough for one to know about any form of photography and that's the good thing about it. It links all aspects of photography together and makes one appreciates other forms of photography not previously explored. It helps to get specialised books to further enhance specific topics, like John Shaw's Profrssional Field Techniques, Landscape Photography; Jim Zuckerman Natural Light Photography; Another excellent book on general photo techniques is Lee Frost's A-Z of Creative Photography. There are many other great photography books that I keep, for reference and leisure reading.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: My profound thanks to London/Upton for their fantastic work. I never thought it possible to make such a complex subject so simple to understand. I have begun viewing (and taking) photographs in a whole new light!
Rating: Summary: This book is excellent for beginners and the experienced Review: People just starting out with photography will learn step by step methods for everything they need to know. Even those more experienced with photography will find this book extremely useful. All sorts of topics are explained throughout this book giving detailed info that anybody can use.
Rating: Summary: Completely understandable, thorough and up-to-date Review: The 6th addition of "Photography" provides the easiest and completest compilation of terms, techniques, and history of photography. Unlike earlier versions, it has up-to-date references on digital imaging and computer manipualation. The content is so understandable, it can be read by pre-teenagers and adults without losing interest. In addition, the content is graphically presented in such a manner that schools can accept the illustrations without fear of censorship without sacrificing artistic license. The thorough presentation of most all common (and some exotic) photographic processes and camera techniques will appeal to all levels of people interested in photography. As a teacher of photography for 25 years, I would be proud to have this as the primary text for all courses.
Rating: Summary: Complete Photography, but change the size of the book. Review: The book is just "ok" when it comes to topics. I prefer not to have sections on developing but more on actual equipment and technique. I thought the digital section was well written but more should have been said since it's eventually be the main part of photography for the future. I prefer to have a reference book written in a traditional school text book format. I don't care for the "chopped up" sections for every page. To me it's chaotic and not well organized. The first chapter is rather elusive and vague. I would have prefered a general introduction. I did not like the physical size of the book. It's hard to hold and I would have prefered for a book of this cost a hard bound edition. If any of you old timers out there remember an excellent book, "The Amateur Photographer's Handbook", by Aaron Sussman, I would have liked "Photography- 7th Edition" to be similar in physical size and content. I have been using, "The Amateur Photographer's Handbook" for so many years and it's just too old for todays photography, that is why I purchased this one.
