Summary: Practical, sound advice and great images.
Review: This was the first book by John Shaw that I purchased. Though it is a little old, it is simply packed with sound advice and techniques which are practical and useful on the field. This book taught me everything I needed to know about macro / close-up photography.

You might also want to refer to his section on close up photography in his later book "Nature photography field guide" which is rather more up to date.
