Summary: Never received
Review: I would like to read the book. After two months, the projected delivery date is still two months away. Please cancel this order. There was no place to cancel the order on the order page only a checkmark to accept shipment delay. By the way, I still think Bezos' picture on the cover of Time two years ago was the goofiest ceo I've ever seen.

Summary: Half.com or Alpha Craze??
Review: If you're ordering the book from Half.com or Alpha Craze, then may all of the luck of the world be with you. These vendors are thieves! They completely ripped me off on a previous order, and I had to do a charge back with Citibank. They are virtually non-existent when it comes to communicating.

Summary: A must-have for any painter
Review: It is rare for an artist to have contact with and guidance from a master. Though this book cannot replace personal instruction, it is the next best thing. Schmid, in his book, tends toward the thought processes involved in his work, a valuable and hard-to-find resource. The book also demonstrates the sober, as opposed to flighty, attitude of the master painter.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: Richard Schmid is, granted, a master of the canvas, and the book, Alla Prima, is unique in format and beautifully illustrated, but disappointing. There are numerous color plates of his paintings, all exceptionally represented, but the plates appear to be a tribute to his relationship with a young woman rather then representation of his mastery of the canvas. I would have preferred seeing plates of his incredible stilllifes and landscapes interspersed with the portrayals of the young woman. The book is also smaller than I anticipated. I was left wanting, and I expected to come away overly indulged.

Summary: A treasure for your library
Review: Schmid is a talented artist. The works displayed in his book are proof of this. I treasure this book. The photos are wonderful and information although sometimes very basic, is valuable for all artists. As a professional artist myself, it gave me some reminders on approaches I had forgotten about or made less important than they should be. Mr. Schmid seems a bit egotistical but, not in an overly repulsive manner. He is truly a great painter and his book is a fine example of his talent. My hope is there is another book in the works. I look forward to this.

Summary: A Workshop That Comes to Your Home!
Review: Schmid is truly a master of laying it on right the first time! I have learned from this publication how to think about seeing the finished product before even applying the first dab of paint. He shares it all- mixing the colors, balancing the composition, the importance of atmosphere, edge control-well I think you get the idea! As must for artists of all levels...

Summary: The least helpful review.
Review: Sure, everyone who reads this review will likely rate it as 'unhelpful', so I shall keep it short, like this:

If you ever have anything to do with painting or simply try to learn to do something with a bit of passion the way a "pure", "paint-or-die" artist does, then read this book.

I feel like I have just received a Ph.D. from reading his book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: well illustrated
Review: The price of this book made me a little faint! But it is so well illustrated. It is an encyclopedia of techniques, well worth the price, also the size/format is on the small size. But it is educational as well as entertaining as the artist does have a sense of humor.
