Summary: Beautiful book, but poorly edited
Review: A superb reference book, excellent color reproduction, but too complicated and wordy for a textbook for beginning Art History
students.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Comprehensive Source
Review: Book came within a week and was still in original wrapping. No complaints.

Summary: A definite must!
Review: For anyone who is going to college and studying Art, Art History is a required class. This book surprisingly enough was written for the average college student, making the class a little easier to tolerate. The book is full of colored photographs and goes into great detail about the specific periods and works/artists. Although the second part of the book is more interesting, this book illustrates the beginnings of art. I have to say that I have a better eye and deeper appreciation for art in general after reading this book. Besides, knowing about art is a great way to impress the ladies!

Summary: Excellent!
Review: I got this book as a text book for an Art History class...it was worth every dime. It is the most thorough, exhaustive history of art that I've ever seen. I use it now for home schooling my daughter for art. Well worth the money.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: If Art is of interest to you, read it!
Review: I had to read this book for an art histroy class in college. When I felt how heavy it was, and noticed how it lifted tender weight from my pocket I was dreading the long read. But once I got into it, I was fascinated by its depth. This book is an excellent educational tool for anyone in a class or if you just want to learn about art.

Summary: Do yourself a favor - buy this book!
Review: If you are taking an art history class and this book is a text for it - buy it!!! I borrowed it from a friend to save some money and now, I am sorry I did. I have graduated from college, but loved the art class so much, that I wish I had bought the book. I would love to look through it now. It is full of wonderful information - you can't go wrong!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Essential for anybody interested in art
Review: Short review: ... buy it. If it requires selling vital organs or loved ones to pay for it, it's worth it.

Long review: I enrolled in an Art History course with no idea what I was going to get as a textbook. This book is well-written, intelligent, informative without being overly esoteric, and above all beautiful. The prints are generally in color and always well-reproduced. Historical context is always provided, which gives a solid background for anybody looking to learn about the time any artwork was created. The text also offers insightful commentary about each piece selected for display. This book is so good, in fact, that it's become known as the semi-official Art History 101 textbook. Even if the history's not your thing (and for crying out loud, why not?), the book provides untold hours of beauty.

One word: perfection.
