Rating: Summary: Straight to the Point Review: This book stands out from most photography how-to books because it doesn't talk down to the reader. It doesn't waste the first few chapters rehashing exposure, aperture, shutter speed basics. Instead it goes straight to the subject at hand - flash photography. The ratio of text to number of pictures is high, which is what I like. I find most photography books are written as if the reader has a short attention span and can't handle advanced details. I don't agree with readers who want more pictures or details on using flash in specific situations. It's better to understand the basic principles than to be spoonfed. The reader can figure out for himself what to do through experimentation, observation and experience. This book has so much in it that it will take me a long time to absorb it and implement what I've learned. My thanks to the author for getting me through my first wedding shoot successfully.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Book! Review: This is a very good books written in plain English. The details about the various light sources (flash, strobes) was very helpful. I read this book before I bought my first flash and strobe lights. It is not perfect but motivated me enough to try flash in my photography. Now my photos are much richer than before. The quality of photos shown in the book is very poor. The photographer seem to lack the artistic skill. Yet this is a very good for someone new to flash photograhy. So the books served its goal.
Rating: Summary: Good Technicals Not so hot Photos Review: This is an excellent book for those who wish to know the A-B-C of how to use an electronic flash in all manner of situations. The big minus is that it doesent give you any pointers on how to take appealing looking photographs. Nearly all of the sample pictures in the book are little better than posed snapshots and don't make you want to grab your camera and rush out the door like Brian Peterson's books do. If you want to compose good flash photos you have to combine the books of the two authors.
