Summary: Why?
Review: After reading lots of other underground building books I find myself asking, why build with tires? Anyhow, if your interested in underground building you might as well check this technique out. There is lots of interesting, and useful information inside, but the book could have used a lot more photos, especially colour ones. You will also learn about a new style of living in tune with the earth.

Review: I went to Taos and toured some of the "Earth Ship" houses, and they were wonderful. I bought the books there and read them cover to cover (on the way home). These books are full of good, practical, information. If you have access to old tires, empty cans, clay mud, you could build your own house. I haven't done a house yet, but I've done some other interesting projects using these principles.

Summary: Amazing Building Method Using Car Tires and Aluminum Cans
Review: These books are way ahead of their time. The author first describes the idea of a self-contained "earthship" -- a home that provides for it's own power, sewage, food and water needs. He then talks about the structure, the ideas behind it, and why it works. The rest of the book is all about how to actually build one. Don't pass this up, once you get the idea in your head, you'll want to build one of your own!

Summary: Thirty years of exploration into biology, physics, humanity
Review: Thirty years of exploration into biology, physics and human nature have brought me to the realization that humanity itself has, in fact, sharpened the sword that is potentially responsible for piercing it through the heart.

The way people blame/attack/sue each other and whatever agency or authority that prevails, has bred paranoia like a stagnant body of water breads algae. This has resulted in a coral of laws and codes that no one has the courage to drift from lest they fall prey to the lawyers.

The result is we - the body of humanity - have corralled ourselves in laws and codes that, while meant to protect us, are actually keeping us from evolving at the pace necessary to keep up with global change and population explosion. The result of this will be extinction of humanity unless we can designate certain law/code free "pockets" for experimentation of new and more logical ways of living in the biological/physical environment that we find ourselves trying to exist in.

Many years ago, New Mexico designated several thousand acres of land for testing weapons of nuclear destruction. They dropped an atomic bomb. Every code, law and environmental standard was broken for this endeavor in the name of defense from our enemies. Can't we now, take this same bold step to designate several thousand acres in every state to explore methods of sustainable life on this planet; free from laws, codes and basic human encumbrances, in the name of defense... from our own failing methods of living.
