Summary: Some useful info but not worth the effort
Review: The description on the cover made this book sound really interesting but it turned out to be too much a jumble of information. I did get some useful hints from it, but not nearly as many as I had expected. I missed any pictures of what they were describing. That would have helped a lot. And the writing was pretty clunky and the subjects jumped all over the place, so that made it more difficult to enjoy.

Summary: Good book for finding your personal style for millionaries
Review: The exercises are thought-provoking and help you to learn just what your individual style is today. You determine just what individual style you are and what goals you want to achieve through appearance and presentation.
I was not dissapointed by the lack of pictures or diagrams - the authors do this intentionally so that you are forced to do the homework. This is a process and can be quite time-consuming. The authors want you to research what appeals to you in depth - they do not just use some formula or a quiz to determine your style. This is not a quick makeover, color analysis, or style based on shape or season. For those that are willing to make the effort this book is worth a look if you can put up with their blatant snobbery.
The fault lies the insistance of the authors (clothing designers)
to purchase high-end designer clothing because it has the "best fit and color." Their usual clients make a seven-figure salary and they fail to see that most people do not have that kind of money to put into clothing. If you have so much as set a toe in one of the Mart brothers (as opposed to a shop on Rodeo Drive), the authors will go into a coma. They need to get a grip on reality or spend a day "slumming" in the rural areas or suburbia (when those of us without seven-figure salaries live) at a Wal-Mart.

Summary: Fashion freedon perhaps but only for a few
Review: The general premise of this book is sound enough -- you need to spend some time introspecting to discover what style means to you before you go out and put down some dough on clothes. This is certain to save yourself from the mistake of buying a leather pants when you'd be happier in a three-piece suit. The problem is that the book is all theory and gives very little in the way of guidance as to how to translate that into practice.

The authors are real life image consultants and they help with that part of the process by going with their clients to stores, showing them what quality clothing looks and feels like, how to find it on the rack, how to try it on, what fifteen different shades of green look like on you and why. This book doesn't try to convey any of that. Probably no book can because it is such a personal thing. In that sense, it really isn't this book's fault that it doesn't get a five star rating. I'm not sure that any fashion book could get a five star rating because fashion and style are such personal things.

Nevertheless, I think the book could have done a better job of providing SOME kind of guidance. What's the difference between worsted wool and crepe? What do French cuffs look like? How about color pictures of six different shades of green explaining to us which one has more red and which more blue?

I think this book provides an interesting and probably fundamental foundation on which to build your style. But this book alone is not sufficient. You'll need something with more concrete details to supplement the psychology and theory in this one.

Summary: Helps you get to the heart of Your Style
Review: This book delivers on its promise of helping the reader fully consider their personal style, how to develope it and convey it through the language of clothes. The section on taste was especially good; i.e., why there is no such thing as "good or bad" taste, only developed, refined or non-existent taste. I wish I had found this book a long time ago. The authors do not present a simplified code of "types" or styles to choose from; instead they encourage the reader to do the introspective work required if one is to become aware of and develope one's own taste. The only other "fashion" book I found this helpful was "Metamorphosis" which was published in the 80s. If you enjoy self-expression in all its forms and want to expand it through your wardrobe, I recommend this book!

Summary: I look great because I FEEL GREAT
Review: This book has given me the tools to find out that I am a very unique and creative lady. After reading the book I find out that I used to dress for everyone else; people in elevators, people on the street, my husband and co-workers. Now armed with my style statement and a boost of confidence I am off to the stores to buy clothes that reflect my hobbies, passions and real life. What a relief to stop wearing everyone elses clothes and starting wearing my own.

This is not a make over book, or just a fashion book, this is a book about finding yourself and then showing the world who you are.

Great book.

Summary: This book changed the way I see myself!
Review: This book has made me see myself (and the world) in a totally different way. After reading the book, I have found that I am much more accepting of the person I am (and have even found that I'm pretty decent at that!) Kate and Malcolm's book has helped me to look inside myself and find a pretty neat person. It was an entertaining and very informative read -- and this is coming from someone who has never read a "fashion" book before. It made me realize that how I dress definitely reflects my mood and feelings for myself and others. After completing the steps, I found that I am an empowered person on the inside and all I have to do is have faith in myself to let it shine through to the outside as well! I am able to go shopping now and look for clothes that truly reflect how I feel about myself ... empowered, confident and sincere! This book is informative and entertaining. It gives "shopping" novices a place to start when it comes to what to look for and how to find what works for you, and it gives interesting stories of people that we can all relate to! I highly recommend the book. Take the time to give yourself the gift of self-empowerment!

Summary: an authentic and down-to-the-earth guide on personal style
Review: You may be disappointed if you expect a lot of graphic or photo from this book. However, this book does a powerful job in deliviering a message - that we can all look and feel good with our unique fashion style and preference. Yet, we all need to have certain understanding about ourselves. And this is exactly what this book is trying to help us. This book helps me by reassuring what kind of style I have and how I can be comfortable with the way I look. It also helps me to choose the right clothes to buy, and thereby simplifies my wardrobe. This is definitely a good resource for anyone who is searching for his/her fashion style.
