Rating: Summary: great starting point for formalizing/mainstreaming process Review: A lot of time is wasted in the creative business just doodling and waiting for one's muse to pop in and show us the light. This book takes the sloppy creative process and pretty much streamlines it into a more productive method of thinking things out and solving problems. While there are examples of real creative work, the book focuses more on process than one product. If you're constantly living on mental post-it notes and flying by the seat of your pants when coming up with new ideas, this book might just be the ticket for you to get the creative process more organized. I have seen a few reviews that cited a problem with the size of the font used in the book... I held the pages of the book up to my computer monitor and find that the font used on this webpage is actually smaller than that used in the book... so if you can read this page, you can read the book. :-)
Rating: Summary: This book is a MUST for graphic designers! Review: After reading and reviewing this book I began to realize different styles and understanding of design. The book is filled with full color illustrations and is packed with useful information on design. I would highly recommend this book to anyone in graphic design. I use it to refer to for examples of design in print, web pages, multimedia and many others. Not only are the illustrations a stimulation for creativity, but the content and guidance in the text is well worth the cost.
Rating: Summary: One of the best idea generators around. Review: Better than looking at design annuals for fresh inspiration. Berryman maps out the Designer/Client relationship in a way that's understandable. Each side is represented well. There are plenty of examples to learn how to generate ideas at all times, even the difficult ones.
Rating: Summary: Great way to look at the creative process!! Review: Good for beginners and those that have years of experience as creatives. Can help you look at things from a different point of view. Includes steps to take before, during and after the brainstorming. Must have for those times when things just aren't clicking.
Rating: Summary: Not that great Review: Having read this book, I can't say that my life has changed dramatically. Although, Oldach does do an OK job of outlining the designer/client relationship, he doesn't go far enough. The layout of the book itself is hardly creative - in fact, the type is set too small and is difficult to read. The images next to the folio make no sense, and some of the quotations he uses are bland with no meaning. You might have better luck designing with your eyes closed.
Rating: Summary: definatly not a picture book Review: I found this book to be very helpful in getting you to think of the box. Instead of being like a picture book with not much information, it tells you how to come up with ideas and explains the process of making a good design. This is a great book to have if you already have those picture books with just designs and need something to help you with actually creating your own designs.
Rating: Summary: The book of all books Review: I had been looking for a book about creativity, I wanted to understand the process more, and hopefully increase my productivity. This book was one of 12 that I bought related to the design and creativity area, and was by far the best I've read yet. It gives so much information about the process of idea generation that even I understand it more now (and I've been doing it for 4 years). I have already used the advice on handling clients to great success, and I'm reading the book a second time round. This book is a MUST for all designers at all levels!! Enjoy
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended from one designer to another Review: I thought the layout is very clean, with a lot of white space. Not cluttered like some other design manuals I've owned. Which makes very easy reading with no distractions. The illustrations are well used throughout. With tons of great samples it will help you generate many new ideas and help you get out of the block you thought you are in.
Rating: Summary: Really Small Font Review: It's a great book, but make sure you have plenty of light and good vision. The font size is quite small, but the actual content is great.
Rating: Summary: A good process primer Review: Mr. Oldach does a great job of putting into words ideas, thoughts and tangents that I always wanted to capture in words throughout my career, but now I dont't have to. Mark insightfully outlines the design process as a launchpad for creative solutions, not a rigid, constricting container. If your a designer, a must have.
