Rating: Summary: Very helpful Review: As a "foreign" reader you sometimes have to concentrate a lot to understand what the author was trying to tell you.
But that book really pays because you'll get a grasp of some very clever techniques that evolved over time.
(For example drawing foreshortened squares/cubes without using plans and vanishing points). Untill now I've never read such a practical and helpful book on perspective for artists.
Most books on perspective either are too technical (-and that won't help the aspiring artist) or they are too basic.
Wish that Rex Vicat Cole had published another book on that subject and shared the next level with us ...
(That in mind I should give 4 points because he didn't :-))
Don't just read, practice!
Some beginners think perspective is easy because at school they once learned that all you need are two vanishing points. Of course I don't agree ... perspective is in everything we see regardless of size and the smaller the object, the more it differs from cubes :-) the more complicated it gets. So when drawing from life you'll soon discover that there's a lot more on perspective drawing.
Cole's book takes you beyond that (basic) level and helps improving your draftsmanship.
Rating: Summary: Good book for studying perspective theory Review: I have found this book to be extremely valuable, as it is the only book I have come accross which teaches perspective as a thoery, and not just something you will eventually get the hang of through imitation and a few basic tips. Perhaps my searching skills are lacking, but as far as I know this book is unique among perspective books that are still in print. The subject is treated in a more technical manner than most contemporary books on drawing, so it is understandable that a few reviewers would criticize it for being "complicated". But its treatment of the subject is not particularly difficult. In fact a basic course in Euclidean Geometry would certainly take more thought and reflection than is needed to study this book.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous book! What a gem! Review: I'm usually disgruntled by how little useful information is in art instruction books, but this book is chock full of practical, useful information. This is the best art instruction book I've ever read. Those who have a lot of difficulty with technical subjects might have trouble understanding this book. Otherwise, it's fairly easy to understand. Does anyone know of any other top notch books available that cover perspective techniques not included in this book?
Rating: Summary: Good book for studying perspective theory Review: If you have a basic understanding of 2 point (or maybe even 1 point) perspective, this book will help you build and expand upon that. It offers "laws" of perspective and tons of examples of how those laws work and apply in art. This book is great.

Rating: Summary: A Very Bad and Complicated book!!!!!! Review: Ok, I brought this book years ago and hardly ever use it from the day i brought it. Why you ask? It is simply too complicated for a beginner like myself to understand what the author is trying to tell me. The example are very hard to understand and directions are also hard to follow.I was lost even on the first page.If you want a very good book that deals with perspective and for beginners and beyond get Perspective! for Comic Book Artists: How to Achieve a Professional Look in Your Artwork by David Chelsea. It is very entertainingand very useful book. And best of all the entire book lessons is taught on a comic format rather than a text book. SO dont watse you money and time on this book because there alot other good perspective that are out there waiting for you.
Rating: Summary: A must have book for serious artist Review: This book has been a great source of information to me for years Although I have not read all the books available it is hard for me to think anyone has come up with a better or simpler way to explain this critical subject of prospective. How many artist I have met while teaching, that have struggled with trying to produce a professional drawing because they did not devote the time to read this book and practice what it teaches. Buy it and use it if you are serious about art.

Rating: Summary: Great Book On Perspective Review: This book leans large tword the details of how and why. It's an updated copy of an old original text. The style of writing proves this out. Never-the-less the information is current and true. I found this book to be a great help after I decided I needed to really understand perspection on a higher level.
