Review: A truly dreadful book which trots out the most dismal clichés about art in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It has nothing new to say.

Review: The book does exactly what it is supposed to do--present focused and simplified theoretical discussions of major issues in modernism. People whose reading already includes advanced art historical theory might be disappointed, but they shouldn't be reading on this level anyway. A good intro survey text.
