Rating: Summary: A good quick introduction to a leader of the avant-garde Review: Moholy is best represented by his posthumously published masterpiece Vision in Motion (1947), which is currently out of print. However, many of his artistic ideas (machine aesthetics, democratization of art, ties between high art and popular culture) and styles are represented in the 55 photographic works offered here--many of which are not strictly photographs, having been created outside the camera. Moholy plays freely over the range of visual possibilities--monochrome vs. color, from representation of nature through abstraction to pure construction on the one hand and to fantasy on the other. With Jeannine Fiedler's introduction and comments on the works, this book gives a good sense of what Moholy is all about for a small commitment of money and time.
