Review: I searched high and low for books that were both practical, informative and realistic in regards to the ceramic shell casting process. This is the only one I have found of any worth at all. It includes formulas, techniques that are aimed at the artist, as well as feedback from someone with many hours in the foundry. I suggest this to anyone interested in artistic bronze casting and the ceramic shell process.

Review: Methods for Modern Sculptors is a "how to" book for the hands on type of sculptor who wants to learn to cast their own metal. I have had many years of experience learning the techniques of art and metal casting. I hope this book will help you to not go through what I had to in order to learn to cast bronze effectively. This book covers waxes, sprues, mold making, ceramic shell casting, dewaxing, melting and pouring metal, welding, chasing, cleaning, and polishing. Complete details on the formulation and handling of a ceramic shell slurry is also included along with how to build kilns and furnaces. Also, a glossary of terms, directory of suppliers, the history of bronze, and a bibliography for further reading.
