Summary: Painting WITH textures
Review: Watch out ! This book is about painting WITH textures and volume (i.e. painting with latex, plaster, silicon, organic elements, paper collage, etc.) and not about HOW TO paint textures and volume (for example, how to paint the various textures like glass, wood grain, porcelain, gold, etc. i.e. the textural details that enhance a painting).
As I expected the latter, it is difficult for me to accurately rate this book.
This being said, this book seems pretty complete to me covering subjects like how to use sgraffito on a glass surface, pasting with oil paints and acrylics, making a relief collage using tissue paper, creating texture with organic elements, marble powder, sawdust or pieces of cloth and using the encaustic technique with oil painting.
It is well-structured and pleasant to read. The different techniques are explained by step-by-step demonstrations and tips about the materials and instruments, making you eager to try out this (new) approaches.
Even though I'm not an expert in this specific matter of painting with texture, still I may judge the quality of this book as compared to the tons of other art instruction books I've bought over the internet, in terms of presentation, style, illustrations and structure and that's why I give it a five-star. The book was originally written in Spanish (Pintando texturas y volumen).
