Summary: Exotic Nudes
Review: "Exotic Nudes" a beautifully executed book by Gian Paolo Barbieri and is published by Taschen in their usual artistic and accomplished manner. Note that this is a compilation of "Tahiti Tattoos" and "Equator," two of Barbieri's other books, so as an owner of "Tahiti Tattoos" I was disappointed that I could not know this in advance of ordering. There are many full page photos in this quality duo tone edition. Duo tone images appear to be black and white but gain the richness in look by printing in an additional color such as brown or gray which is mixed with the black ink. The title "EXOTIC NUDES" though, to me, is a misnomer. Out of about 200 images, approximately 30 of the Male & Female images could be classified as "nudes," another 66 of the images were non nudes or simply of hands, legs, or facial closeups etc. This left a little more than 100 images of super close ups of eels, squid, fish, flowers, rocks, exotic fruit, leaves and tree parts (a few of these images had the human form included in a minor way) in this 128 page book. Barbieri's other books, "Madagascar" is of the same genre but to me is more interesting because it presents more of a picture of the exotic place and its people and "Tahiti Tatoos" is also more exotic and coheisive. If "Exotic Nudes" simply had a title that better reflected it contents, it certainly would have earned a better star rating.
