Summary: Creating the Musee D'Orsay
Review: As an architecture student I was originally studying the Muse? D'Orsay as an example of adaptive reuse but I found the story and struggle of the Muse? captivating. The Muse? is a project where Art, Architecture, Culture, Politics and History overlap and conflict and the book offers a superb discussion of each aspect of the Museum. I learned a great deal not only about the Muse? D'Orsay but about the history of 19th century painting, art criticism and the controversies inherent in both. I would strongly recommend this book as it offers an insight into a variety of fields as well as the nature and conception of culture in France.

Summary: Controversy for new art in an old station
Review: This book which I read for a museum studies class is an excellent retelling of the struggle to decide what to do with Gare D'orsay in Paris. The book which shows through a few plates the dramatic changes that took place in the station when the french ministry decided to convert it into a museum is beautiful. What is done extremely well in this book is the authors discussion of what art should belong in this museum. The discussion of what time periods this museum should encompass is very interesting and quite well thought out. If you are looking for an interesting book on museums in unusual spaces this is probably the most interesting. It is also a valuable teaching source for museum controversy.
