Summary: This story needs to be shouted and shown from the rooftops.
Review: August 11. DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS: CROSSING AMERICA'S DESERT BORDERLANDS needs to be shouted and shown from the rooftops. The message needs to be gotten out in Maine and Minnesota and Missouri and Oregon and South Carolina and Louisiana - not just here along our hot and dusty border. It's a message that needs to make its way into corporate board rooms and the halls of Congress and into the White House. It needs to make its way into national consciosness and to stir the national conscience. Is there no limit to man's inhumanity to man? I will go to my grave dreaming of a world without political boundaries other than those that exist in the most ceremonial and celebratory sense. And books, and photo essays, like Annerino's, make those dreams seem all the more urgent - and worthwhile. Thank you. And thank him.

Summary: DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS is a remarkable, tremendously important
Review: August 11. I sat down this evening to read DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS, and just finished it. All in one sitting. I really couldn't put it down. I think it's a tremendously important book. It should be required reading for those planning to cross the border, and track and control the border through immigration policies. The author did a huge amount of research, and legwork. I commend Annerino's efforts and results. His photographs, along with the maps, work well together to give the reader a first hand encounter with the land and people who cross it. I like the pacing of the chapters, the inclusion of both the men who cross the border and the Border Patrol agents, and Annerino's very thoughtful reflections on the value of Mexicans killed in the killing fields in search of a paycheck to send home to their families. It makes me feel real bad. It is hard to read at times only because it's so sad. Boy, am I glad I wasn't the photographer on those trips! Thank you for the remarkable book.

Summary: I need this book.
Review: August 11. I spend a large amount of time apprehending illegal aliens, but one thing I can't stand are "coyotes." They will always carry dope, lie to you, and could care less if the people who paid them good money to come across the desert die. Just the other night I had a coyote fight me. So when I saw DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS, that hit home right away! I absolutely need to get this book for my two lieutenants. Thank you.

Summary: DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS is both wonderful and horrifying.
Review: August 11. The photographs in DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS illustrate the horrifying experiences many immigrants endure to reach the United States, and it is nothing short of wonder that their story has finally been told.

Summary: Pungent!
Review: August 11. The photography in DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS is pungent, and the text is even more so!

Summary: Overwhelming!
Review: August 11.I'm overwhelmed that DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS: CROSSING AMERICA'S DESERT BORDERLANDS is finally out. I have some inkling of how tough this book was - researching, writing, getting it published. Annerino's passion made it happen. Lesser men would have never begun, let alone finished. I have no doubt that it will somehow, someway, save lives. Even one unknown Mexicano saved will justify calling this book a grand success. Thank you.
