Rating: Summary: FINALLY....A BOOK ON LEARNING TO DRAW! Review: AFTER PURCHASING THIS BOOK ..., AND WAITING IN EARNEST FOR IT TO ARRIVE I WAS MORE THAN PLEASANTLY SUPRISED AT THE CONTENT FOUND WITHIN. THIS BOOK IS THE REAL DEAL...! TRUDY DOES AN AMAZING JOB DISPLAYING HER TECHINIQUES TO BOTH THE NOVICE AND THE EXPERIENCED ARTIST, REGARDLESS OF WHICH CATEGORY YOU HAPPEN TO BE IN.....EACH CHAPTER EXHIBITS A "DO" AND "DONT" FORMAT FOR EACH OF THE DRAWING THEMES, SUCH AS PORTRAITS (MY FAVORITE!), LANDSCAPES, ANIMALS, ETC. ON THE LEFT PAGE IS PORTRAYED THE "DONTS", WHAT NOT TO DO , AND ON THE RIGHT SIDE, THE CORRECTED METHOD, THE "DO"S IF YOU WILL.....BY ANALYZING THE LEFT PAGE YOU CAN THEN TRAVERSE ACROSS TO THE RIGHT PAGE AND SEE HOW THE TWO TECHNIQUES DIFFER, AND HOW TO IMPROVE YOURSELF..AGAIN,FINALLY A BOOK ON HOW TO DRAW!
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Reference Review: This book is worth the price if only for the author's wonderfully expressive drawings - and her detailed "before and after" solutions cover a broad range of the pitfalls that a beginning artist faces in learning to draw landscapes, forest scenes, still life, people and animals. The style is direct and readable, and Ms. Friend's drawings (I found the cat on page 109 irresistible) provide numerous examples of how much can be expressed using nothing but pencil and paper.

Rating: Summary: Excellent drawing course Review: This is the most helpful book on drawing techniques in pencil, there are so many books showing spectacular drawings without actually any hint how one can develop and reach that professional level. This book gives hundreds of very practical advises and helps to establish your own style. Anyone who wants to improve drawing skills and make the process of learning more systematic and enjoyable do not hesitate, just get the Trudy Friend's book, and start practicing under experienced artist instructions!
