Summary: An imaginative, beautiful and thought-provoking book...
Review: Although I tend to be drawn to b & w photographs, I couldn't help being captivated by Nick Knight and his colorful vision (some of his stuff is in b & w as well). I saw one of his pictures in a library book and knew right then and there that I had to see more of his work. From portraits and fashion to the avant-garde and surreal he manages to turn his subjects into something both exciting and delicate, vivid and intriguing. I wish more people knew about him, and I hope others take the chance I did by buying this book. You won't regret it. It even has a soft velvety cover! (giggle) Enjoy

Summary: A bit disappointed
Review: I've been a longtime fan of Nick Knight's work. However, the PRESENTATION of "Nicknight" IMO doesn't justify his work. There is too much disparity in the images, unlike his other photo monographs.

The first thing that disappointed me with this volume is the archive of 1980's B&W images, which are presented in a sort of concise "thumbnail" layout. They are representative of Knight's dynamic and bold portraits of edgy British culture. I really would've liked these images to have been presented full-page.

And one (usually insignificant) thing which I thought was "flawed" is the typeface used throughout the book. There are several different font faces and sizes used, causing page after page to look rather "inconsistent".

But nonetheless, the images THEMSELVES do show the innovations in photography pioneered by Knight.

This book is somewhat "outdated", but I'm sure it was something when it was first published. It applied the "Novaspace" printing technique which allowed for a new wide color gamut printing. Though more modern advancements have been more improved. I wouldn't recommend NOT buying this book, but I would advise you NOT to pay +$100 for it (Even though you may be only able to get it for that as it's out of print). And if you buy it USED, I wouldn't worry about a missing slipcase (it's just a VERY cheap piece of cardboard which will fall apart anyway, just keeps the velvet cover clean).
