Summary: Mostly Columns
Review: Laugier's Essay, from the mid-eighteenth century, lays out an agenda for purity in architecture. His main argument is rooted in a criticism of now-discarded French styles, but his discussion of the 'primitive hut' still draws interest. Laugier believes in a natural form of architecture, embodied by the simple columns of the supposed first buildings. It's an interesting read if you want to learn about early architectural theory.
