Mothers have been around for centuries, and with them, the artists who have interpreted the nature of motherhood with paintbrush, pencil, or makeshift chisel. Susan Bracaglia Tobey, a former curatorial assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art and researcher at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, has lovingly compiled 180 pages of mothers and children in art.
