Rating: Summary: A book that opens your eyes Review: This book covers the development of D's composition and technique with respect to these two genres quite well. The emphasis throughout is on the art, and biographical information is provided only to the extent that it supports on understanding of the paintings. The text is well-written and presupposes no background about the artist or the period. The illustrations are wonderful, well-chosen to illustrate the ideas discussed, and well-placed in the text. On all counts it is a pleasure to read this book. I can't recommend it highly enough. The book opened these painting up to me and provided me with a new way of seeing them. I can't think of a better complement to give an introductory monograph.
